Money. That is all. They want them initiation fees for there churches and to line their own pockets. The new wave of preachers don't have the civil rights movement come and pray to jesus and tithe for protection against the clan sermons no more. The put the drugs down and come get high on jesus and tithe too has been played already as well.
These new niggahs need a new angle. So they want to get the young folks to stop pledging sororities and fraternities not because it's evil.... these new niggahs want your initiation fee's and yearly dues for their own pockets. They attacking hip hop the same way. They want your money. That is all.

Water, I'm not trying to knock ANYBODY'S praise...but that first group...they were sangin' their hearts out...but SOMETHING was missing.  My BF always gets irritated when whites sing soul music, because he says it's basically a cultural imitation, and that the musicians don't have the experience or background to sing it. I don't necessarily agree (I LOVE Christina Agulera, Joss Stone, Robin Thicke, Hall and Oates, etc.)...but that choir was kind of an example of what he's been talking about. |

The tithe is not legit? Why? 1). Because God did not command new covenant believers to tithe. We are to give as we have purposeth in our hearts, and not out of obligation per 2 Corinthians 9:7. How can we give "cheerfully" when we are told we will be under a curse if we don't? The Apostle Paul encouraged sacrificial, FREEWILL giving; he did not teach tithing. 2). Even though there was already a well-established monetary system in Israel (see Deuteronomy 14:25-26), the tithe was ALWAYS in a dietary form. People who say money didn't exist, or money was scarce, during those times are either ignorant or lying. There are many more scriptures that prove that money existed. This begs the obvious question: if God did not designate "money" as a tithe, then who gave the church the authority to redefine its contents? 3). Only the Levites were commanded to receive the tithe per (Hebrews 7:5 & Numbers 18:21) because they could not own or inherit land. Today's pastors want to collect the tithe AND own/inherit land, which is a CLEAR VIOLATION of scripture. Today's ministers are NOT Levites; therefore, they have no authority to receive any tithes. 4). Tithe means "tenth," NOT 10%. Per Leviticus 27:32, the TENTH animal that passed under the rod was to be set aside for the Levites. In other words, the tithe was based upon a sequential order: NOT a percentage. You can't give 10% of an animal. 5). There were THREE tithes mentioned in the bible: * Levitical tithes - per Numbers 18:21, * Festival tithes - per Deuteronomy 12:1-19 & 14:22-26, & * Poor/Welfare tithes - per Deuteronomy 14:28-29 & 26:12-13. The food producers in Israel paid up to 23.3% in tithes. If the Israelites paid three tithes, then how come the church teaches ONE tithe? Either teach ALL of the tithes or none. 6). The vast majority of the tithes went to the Levitical cities (where the Levites and priests lived): NOT the storehouse. See Nehemiah 10:37 (latter part of verse 37). The storehouse was not big enough to hold the tithes of an entire nation.The Levites and priests served in the temple in Jerusalem only part of the time; the rest (and vast majority) of their time, they were in their dwelling cities learning trades and taking care of the tithed animals given to them by the other Israelites. It makes no sense to send all their food to a place where they were only part of the time. Once people gain a full understanding of where most of the tithes actually went, this puts Malachi 3:10 into context. As we see in Malachi 3:10, God says, "so that there may be FOOD (not money) in my house." The church is NOT the storehouse, contrary to popular belief. I can go on and on, but I am in full agreement with Fred, and thoroughly convinced, that today's tithing doctrine is illegitimate, and the way it has kept millions of well-meaning christians in bondage, it should be ILLEGAL. |
