This 2008 election is history in the making because of a black man being the democratic nominee for president, and a woman being the v.p. nominee for the republican party.
So, with this in mind, in your honest opinion, what is this election really about? Is it race and gender, or is it about the economy, education, health care, etc., etc.?

Its a circus... its about the increasing amount of mentally challenged people we have in the country. To me the media is in control of this election.
but yeah I would have to say its about race.. If a white man was bringing all Obama is bringing to the table he would be hailed the next JFK and this election would look so whop sided it wouldn't even really be an election. Obama's skin tone somehow balances out all of the other ticket's inadaquecies. (sp?)

At the end of the day this race is about race with gender running a close second.

This election, in my opinion, is about the future of our country. We are at a point in this global community where we have to find our worth. No longer are we or will we be the leader in ideas and innovation. We are no longer a manufacturing center of the world. We are a slave to an antiquated fuel source. We have 6% unemployment. We have an economy in shambles. We have a slow bleeding of the number of American students entering college, graduate school and PhD programs. This number is a full blow gushing of blood when it comes to Blacks.
This election is about the direction of America. Where do we go from here?

Cam that's what it SHOULD be about but people can't let go of their petty prejudices to focus on REAL issues..

The things that matter most to me are health care, energy and oil, education, abortion, jobs and the war. Not to say that I don't care about any of the other issues but these are the ones that I have and do deal with in MY life.

It's really about a battle of the minorities. Let's stretch the boundries of tokenism and see who we can toss a bone to first.
Obama has repeatedly tried to keep this election clean but McCain HIMSELF has continued to try and create a wider chasm between men and women and black and white.
Honestly though, I think with the economy in the condition it's in, people are going to see the light before the election.

Normatively speaking its about the economy, the war in Iraq, potential problems brewing with China and N. Korea, alternative fuel sources and the like.
Empirically speaking its about a "nigger" running for president vs. the Established White Man with a woman for a VP.
