Does anyone else listen? When he first came to this market a year or two ago, I thought he was GARBAGE. I thought his books ("Never Satisfied", etc.) were crap, and I thought his show was even worse. He was always talking about strippers, why polygamy might be a good idea, cheating (and have people call in with their stories), all kinds of trifling stuff. One time, he even told women to douche with alum to make their coochies tight. I rarely listened. After Jena Six, the show TOTALLY changed. Michael admits this. He even said that while that situation was going on, he TRIED to change the subject several times, but callers kept calling and going back to Jena Six. He realized that that's what people wanted to discuss and hear. His shows are SO much better now, and I listen frequently. He has had Obama, John Edwards, and Hillary Clinton on his show. He went on location during primaries in different states, and on Super Tuesday. Today a reporter from CNN was on talking politics. Every day, the show is discussing something worthwhile and relevant. He even said on another show that this is his first year being really into politics. He said he had to educate himself on things like primaries, delegates, etc., and he's encouraging all of his listeners to do the same. Anyone else notice the change? Do you like the old show or the new show better? Your thoughts?

Not a fan, period. Michael just does whatever he "thinks" is hot, and frankly, he isn't as dumb as he acts. I find that annoying.

I never heard the old show on the radio. To be honest, I just recently heard of him within the past year. I usually listen to him on my way home from work. I think his show is okay. It comes on the same station in ATL along with the Warren Balentine and Al Sharpton shows.

I noticed the change in the show, and I think its great. I also thought his show was garbage before. He has become much more politically and socially active. I think his show is great now...very informative.

Comparing the topics from this year and then last year is a complete 360 degrees. If he going to make the transition to becoming a more informative talk show host regarding political and socia issues he will need to do do more research, start reading WSJ, The NY Times, on a daily basis. He is not as informed, and therefore he seems to be a little uncomfortable when discussing "real" matters.

His audience is so large, it's good for him to talk about real issues.

He definately needed to expand the range of topics, if he wanted to continue to be a viable force in the radio industry. I think he was trying to develop a certain niche in the industry, and he could still do this, however in a "richer" manner.

I listen everyday from work for at least the first 2 or 3 hours. I guess I didn't really take note of the change but now that it's been brought up I see it. Before it seemed like all he did was bash women, talk about sex, and cheat in that men vs women game. He still does all of that one some level but not as much and spends a lot more time talking about issues.
As far as the news topics and other issues he's been saying he's looking to hire people with experience in certain areas and he wants a diverse staff. But I don't know if the applications are just rolling in.
LAst friday was HILARIOUS! The first hour was about men who dump women or pick fights before Valentine's day so they won't have to do anything. I was at work laughing so dayum hard.

He did a similar show regarding the holdiays, in which guys would dump their GF's right before Christmas.

So for the guys who don't break up with her but just pick fights, I wonder what they would do if the girl never gets mad? She would do whatever he wanted and then some. I would love to try that, LOL.

I used to be that girl. So dudes would just come up with BS excuses: "My religion does not allow me to get you anything for Valentine's Day" (he was in the Nation of Yahweh) or one guy I dated talked up all the nice stuff he was going to give me for V-day. He said, "Every girl is going to know you have someone who cares about you on Valentine's Day". When the day rolled around, he said he was broke and couldn't get me anything. He knew he wasn't going to get me anything from the get-go, so he should have saved all those lies.

Although I think V-Day is a special day to celebrate love. However, as long as you show that you love and apprecaite me ALL year round I will give you a 'free pass' to not make V-Day a big deal. I like "just because" type stuff. Don't go playing into the "commercialized" holiday to spend your money just because the calendar says so. It's cute but I need V-day year round for me and my SO. It shouldn't take a specific calendar day to give me gifts or take me out or give me flowers and candy. JMO...

I think that the bigger issue for most women is, If he isn't spending V day with you, then who is he with? Further more, how serious were you to begin with? For years I had "boyfriends" who were delightful, accommodating and romantic throughout the year. I was used to getting wined and dined, however when certain major Holiday's, including Valentines Day rolled around, something would always, happen. I realized during these times, that hey, I am not the only one, and hell, that hurts. (One Valentine's day, I was flattered by my dude wanting to attend a museum field trip with me and my class during the day. He brought flowers and everything, claiming that he had to work the ER later that night. So I made plans with a few girlfriends and went out to a Sushi Bar and there on the big screen was my dude and some chick front and center at a Laker Game. I was humiliated. The past few years I was in a relationship where he would stop at nothing to spend the days with me, that I thought were special, even if he wasn't into them. For example, he arranged a conference for his job so that we could spend the entire week of V day in Palm Springs. I had massages, great food and romance while he worked in between. He was busy, but he made sure I was happy and taken care of. The difference is very clear now. So just be aware!

Well if you look at it from a holiday perspective, then I can understand how woman can get caught up. The same can hold true for New Years Eve, Christmas, or any of the holidays that should be shared together.

Looks like my opinion isn't the popular one. Nothing new there. I don't like the new political climate of the show b/c while he has taken on more politicial and important topics, he conducts himself the same way and it makes him and his listeners (those who call in) look stupid. I don't care to hear "It's about to go down" at the end o f an interview w/ Michelle Obama or Pres. Clinton.

If he wants to be political, then he must first get informed and then he needs to stop all that yelling he does, "oooooh my boy", or that other foolishness. I didn't really like the show before either. I felt like he never allowed anyone with different views to have the opportunity to speak.

Micheal Jackson has a new cd out. Good for him. His song with Will.I.Am is kind of cute.
This lady proposed to her man yesterday and he turned her down. they were in a restaurant so other people saw it. What a shame. They've been living together for 4 years or something and moved from NO together. I don't know if I'd stay with him after that.

I understand COMPLETELY what you're saying...but I still have mixed feelings. I think Black people have started to wake up, and kind of forced his hand a bit...with everything that's going on, it's getting harder and harder to discuss foolishness with so many serious issues going on. He said he tried constantly to change the subject during the Jena situation, but listeners kept calling and switching the subject back.
He made the comment yesterday that "we are all learning and getting informed together". I can respect and understand that. And if he can better inform himself while educating others, I think that's a good thing.
As for the woman in the restaurant--SMH. Just a HOT mess. That would be my cue to roll out (even though I'd never propose to a man, but still... )

He is really getting on my nerves right now. While I support Obama 100%, I'm getting extremely annoyed by Baisden's constant attempts to try to convert folks. Any time a caller says they are a Hillary supporter. He feels the need to tell them why they're wrong and why Obama is better.
I don't agree with him doing that. Especially since he originally stated that just b/c he was endorsing Obama, didn't mean that he was going to try to influence others' opinions. I think that also by his public endorsement of Obama and continuing to criticize Hillary, he has taken away one of the positive points of his show. I thought he was doing his listeners a valuable service by having Obama, Clinton, etc come on his show and answer questions and such. Of course she's not going to call now. And I don't care how wonderful a person we think Michelle Obama is, I agree w/ Tavis, she is not the person who is standing to be elected. And before anyone says anything, no, I didn't want to hear Bill when he called in either.

He's gotten better, but he's still lame.
