Let the vetting begin! by the media. This doesn't seem like a huge deal, but this is obviously the danger of what happens when you pick an unknown person. No, her husband isn't running, and nobody was killed, that we are aware, but every LITTLE thing like this gets magnified when no one has ever heard of you. politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/01/palins-husband-has-dwi-arrest/I think the McCain campaign is a little worried that they didn't do more investigating. Apparently the Wasilla newspaper confirmed that the media was the first to ask them for all of the back issues concerning Palin. That means that the McCain campaign didn't even research her background. Obama is smart in saying that Palin's family is off-limits politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/01/obama-palin%e2%80%99s-family-off-limits/

They just sent a team of vetters to Wasilla to check her out. If this is any indication of McCain's judgment under pressure, I know we can't afford to have him as president.

Indeed I agree - this story will damage the McCain campaign without ANY help from Obama's camp. They don't need to be involved and explicitly staying out of it is the right thing to do.
This is McCain's Frankenstein... he put this together let HIM deal with it. The media dug up dirt on Hillary, Obama, Edwards, McCain - let THEM dig up the dirt on Palin and let HER answer the questions.
SIDE NOTE: Imagine if when told about this story Obama had laughed and said, "you gotta keep your sense of humor about things" in the same way McCain did when he started making personal attacks about Obama. He would NEVER have heard the end of it.

Buyer's Remorse

I am gld that he had the good sense to want to run a decent campaign & leave people's children out of the fray. However, I do think that if Palin is going to eventually assume the role of the Presidency, then this woman is going to have to get it togeather.

So Yall think slamming a Mother of 5 is not gonna backfire and sway public opinion in her favor.
Dedicated Mother and Wife he sticks by her man.
Just as Obama gained steam when so-called Black Leaders spoke out against him she will do the same on the other end of the spectrum. Rev Wright didnt hurt Obama he helped as Obama was gonna lose in WV anyway.

No I don't think it's gonna back fire. You are assuming there's going to be some ground swell for her like there was for Hillary. Hillary had a ground swell BEFORE she was attacked. Their angry response reflected their pre-existing investment in Hillary.
Arguments about sexism with Hillary fired up women because:
1. She's had paid dues and put in work on the issues that women cared about 2. She had qualifications and competencies for the job 3. She had a following among women because of the first 2
Palin has NONE of the above. You are making the EXACT same mistake that the Republicans are making. This is not a Have Ovaries, Will Support type of affair. Women are NOT going to come flying to the rescue simply because she's a woman.
If you need proof just look at Harriet Myers nomination for Supreme Court. She was mocked more than Hillary by the media AND pundits and NO ONE came to her rescue. One woman is NOT just the same as any other woman.

Add to Damie's assessment that this woman is on tape giggling while some right wing radio hosts attacked a political rival. The woman who they attacked was a cancer survivor and they attacked her by calling her a bitch and a cancer. And what did the governor from Alaska do? She giggled...
Let me find the tape...

Here it is, her laughing while another female politician is attacked. I guess she should be able to stand it...

One woman is NOT just the same as any other woman. Please can we stop comparing apples and oranges. Supreme Court nominations or decided by lobbyist. Elections are decided by Public Opinion. Here you have millions of women around this country who feel disenfranchised. They feel slighted about Mich and Fla. They feel slighted that Hilary didn't win. They feel slighted by a perceived gender bashing of Hillary after New Hampshire. Now you think women are gonna rise above all that when they see another woman being bashed as well? Mofo can't even get a sammich from a sistah when she mad but yall banking on women voting with logic and not emotion. We'll see LOL

Yyour argument is flawed. We don't protest injustice based on whether we get a vote or not. The Harriet Myers example is completely appropriate. The fact that it was a nomination and not an election had NOTHING to do with if women felt like protesting or not. The point is NO ONE did and for those same reasons they are unlikely to come to the rescue of John McCain's "Penthouse Pet".
If what you are saying is true - why is it that SO many women have expressed out rage and feel insulted by his pick? Why aren't they identifying with her as you said was the plan?
These are rhetorical questions.

Yes it does team because she is appointed and scrutinized by her peers. The best person never gets on the bench its who can be maneuvered the most to allow stuff to pass and not to pass when it comes time for judgment. You can't compare a Nomination Committee versus the General American Public for elections. LOL Nomination Committee's don't get 2 years of commercials thrown in the faces, stops at the neighborhood church etc, promises of this and that from said person. Instead they get briefcase full of money and a promise of a few special appropriations for silent backers during the next budget from Lobbyist. Ever wondered what or who old boy let slip through the cracks to have that 2o grand in his freezer? TOTALLLY different ball game. No comparison. So once again we cant compare apples to oranges. Nobody came to her defense because in her case the general public doesn't have a voice unless your state rep pays for it in his next election but how many average Americans have the appropriate acumen of the Judicial Branch to understand how Appointments may or may not affect them. Not many

This is BAAAD. Because of the GOP having to basically shut down because of Gustav, the media is being allowed to introduce the VP candidate to the public, not the party. What are THEY going to focus upon?
Negative stories.
VP you can say this was the McCain plan all you want to, but there's NO WAY they wanted all of these stories to come out at once, and they can't do much to respond because they're putting, "Country First." They're not leaking the stories, hell, they prolly didn't have the information to leak the stories.
They're just NOW visiting the city she ran to get info on her? They're too late in the game, they're scrambling because they're behind the 8-ball. McCain could have picked Kay Bailey Hutchison, if he wanted a woman. This was a horribly calculated move on his part.

We'll see. There is no such thing as bad publicity.
Whats the best way to introduce a candidate with no experience..... Drama to get public sympathy. What works best... introduce her formally and have her professional record picked apart or allow the media to focus on her personal life which could create public sympathy.. You decide
