I caught at at the end. It was extremely sad. At first when I figured out that the girl was at a funeral, I thought her baby had died. Then, when I saw the baby's father I was shocked.

What got me was the twelve-year-old mother.

I saw it too. It was so sad. I didn't know that Memphis had such high infant mortality rates.

I just read it at work and I have to say...i'm almost in tears.
Y'all know that I am a HUGE supporter of the March of Dimes and to hear such numbers coming from a city just 90 miles up the road is crippling.
What is the answer? I am the president of an affiliate of my professional organization and we are looking for a charity. The question I have is almost the same as the one asked at the end of this article....If I chose to give money to provide maternity clothes, diapers, etc...is this really helping the problem? I mean, I want to help the children (God knows I do) but I feel like i'm enabling these young women AND THESE YOUNG MEN.
We could probably raise $50,000 easily to help these programs but i'm torn over whether it would really do any good. Maybe that money would be better used to help fund an innter city Boy Scouts or to help kids who are doing ok in school do better and get out of the ghetto.
Call me uppity but I can't FATHOM spending or donating money to a program that I KNOW will be appreciated by the young girls who need it but that I also KNOW will be seen as an entitlement and crutch for young women and men out there sportfucking.
"Well, if I get pregnant, I can just get AFDC, WIC, Government housing vouchers and then I can go down to the XYZ and get some clothes and pampers.
I know it may not seem politically correct of me to feel this way but I would much rather raise money to help those who WANT to do better and can see a way out. I hate spinning my wheels.
This absolutely breaks my heart.

I saw some of the program, and its really. I have already contacted our Social Action Chairperson to see what we can do in Illinois to help strengthen the Storks Nest Program in Tenn.
