politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ Breaking: Edwards admits lying about affair Posted: 03:05 PM ET Edwards endorsed Obama in May. (CNN) – Former U.S. senator and Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards admitted to an extramarital affair in an interview with ABC News, the network reported Friday. He denied being the father of the woman's child, as had been alleged in tabloid reports. Asked by a reporter late last month whether he had provided any financial support to Rielle Hunter, or to Andrew Young — the former Edwards aide who claimed paternity of the child — Edwards replied that "I have no idea what you are asking about, I have responded to consistently to these tabloid allegations by saying I don't respond to these lies." He also said again that he had not lied during his presidential campaign when he denied an affair with Hunter. Filed under: John Edwards

Do you all think this officially kills any possibility of him in the VP spot?

I think so. The DNC said yesterday that he had to address these rumors, or they were going to remove him from the lineup of speakers at the convention. I think he can cancel everything out. DANG! I had supported him too. But he ain't doing nothing that 99% of men are doing.

Yea, I really liked him and have been a supporter, but stuff like this..well it's the way of politics, I'm thinking he's probably done. I didn't even know they were threatening to remove him as a DNC speaker...damn. I wonder if he's telling the truth about not having a love (or lust) child.

I knew it. Dude's hair is too nice.
If you're going to bang some strange....get snipped!
Also, choose a chick with something to lose! Monica Lewenski... there's nothing but upside to having the presidents penis in her mouth. Same with this chick. She wants to be a Hollywood Producer. Think she'll get a shot now?
Barbara Walters and Edward Brooke both had something to lose. That shyt stayed a secret for DECADES!!!
Shame.
Go Obama.

I don't see why if would affect him getting the VP spot. 97% of those politicians have chicks on the side.

No one says it's fair...but having this come out in the midst of a campaign will do nothing but HURT him. Double standards and superiority complexes...when I do it, it's not a big deal, but when you do it, you're the devil. ::shrugs::

In case anyone was wondering - YES he's done as far as VP consideration. The vetting process probably turned this up and that's why he wasn't considered.
Also - I'm always amazed that the woman the man cheats with is never held accountable. Edwards is a pretty well known guy - I'm sure she knew he was married before she did what she did. Takes two to tango.

I'm starting to think this is why he bowed out of the race so suddenly. His campaign manager was even kind of caught off guard when he quit. I thought it was Elizabeth's health, but now I think it was Babymama Drama.
As for ole girl, I agree--she's DEAD WRONG--but at this point, we have very few details. He JUST admitted that he was creepin'. He hasn't even claimed the baby (yet).

He's human. No, I'm not justifying his affair by ANY means. I hope they reconsider offering the spot to John Edwards. (they prolly won't) So what? He's flawed. His policies and platform is still as strong as ever. Having an affair doesn't suddenly render him an ineffective politician.

I haven't seen the baby pics but hes denying he's the father... another dude from the office is claiming to be the daddy: thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/08/abc-news-edwards-admits-to-extramarital-affair/index.htmlBut Edwards made sure to throw in there that he hasn't taken a paternity test, which screams that's my baby I'm just not admitting it yet. Very sad. I liked John Edwards. Even though he made a point of saying his wife was healthy when things popped of, I'm sure her cancer won't help his image. I just can't believe we was so dumb so recently... like when he was running. You alwasy get caught bamas, wait until you get into office before doing the do! Old girl knew what she was doing and that eventually she would get the spotlight

People need to consider what their actions could cost them.
Edwards had a lot to lose, and, although the woman was also wrong, she's not going to pay the price that he will.
When people begin considering what they could lose, they might make better decisions. I know that has helped me.

His policies and platform is still as strong as ever. Having an affair doesn't suddenly render him an ineffective politician. I question his integrity (1. for having and affair and 2. for lying about it when directly asked), but, you're right his ability to make business/political decisions is not impacted by the affair. It's not a good thing, but, as far as I am concerned, that's between him, his wife, and the Lord. People will stop getting disappointed when these things happen if they stop expecting humans to be perfect. With that being said, I don't know many TRUE politicians that have a whole lot of integrity anyway. In my experience, most people with integrity have short careers in politics. There are some exceptions, but I have not encountered many of them.

^^^^555555! Of course I know he flat out stated he's NOT interested in the Vice Prez slot. Integrity & character in question? Sure, but not to the degree that voters should take their eye off the ball. I agree with ya. Realistic expectations would help in more than just politics.

I hate to say it...there are a lot of PEOPLE without integrity. What's crazy to me about this situation is that it would have NEVER blown up to this level without the photos of his meeting at the hotel in CA last month. If the affair was in 2006 and it was OVER, why did he go to CA to "talk"? What the heyell was there to talk about?

damn chicken coming home to Roost I guess. Sooooooo Black politician fuck on his wife he get dragged through the mud...white politician fuck on his wife who has terminal cancer and he gets an interview.. HMMPF Yeah VP but unlike Kwame, Edwards didn't look at his accusers and say (in substance) "So what! I'm Kwame nigga!...what chu gonna do to me? Huh?" With that being said, i'm sick of this interview, psychoanalyze the guy to see what could have made him cheat bullchyt. He wanted some strange, he got it. He also got caught. It ain't fucking rocket science. Why the fuck is he on Nightline?

So, I just had a thought. Edwards was pretty much busted visting this chick very recently...like within the past month. If he is not the father of her 6 month old and the affair s over, why exactly was he at her hotel room?
I mean, I like the man, but this doesn't look good. AND...the veracity of the reports about his affair actually give the Enquirer (of all publications) some credence.

When people begin considering what they could lose, they might make better decisions. I know that has helped me. Very good point. Clearly, he did not care about the consequences of his actions, so he acted on his feelings. How does this effect his political career? Well, lets see. As for Mrs. Edwards, not sure that she is all that supportive. I am waiting for her to say, "Its a wrap".

HMMPF Not true, shortly after David Patterson took office he admitted cheating on his wife (and eventually she on him) and his career has been unaffected. Kwame lied to a grand jury and fired someone to keep his secret. That ain't apples to apples. i just think America is "over" the shock that a famous man cheated on his wife. Far too common these days.
