i really hope this isn't true. but then again, i was listening to the radio yesterday (NPR) and i heard one of the foreign reporters talk about her experience in another country where Blacks were feared. Blacks were feared because of the image that they see on TV of us. some people in certain foreign countries really think that all Black people are violent and that all Black people steal. i don't know if beijing is adopting this mindset.

Ummm just a reminder. BET is not own or run by black people. Remember Bob johnson sold it to Viacom which own MTV, VH1, etc....we are not totally doing it to ourselves we've allowed them to continue doing it to us by supporting that foolishness. If no one watched they'd haveto a) put better programming on or b) fold.
As for the Chinese...I think its true but what do you expect from people who are trying to start improving their air quality 3 weeks before the Olympics when they knew it was coming years ago!! :smh:

It's not even all about "bumping" any particular music-it lends more to how we treat and interact with one another. It has been said many times before (even by some of those so-called gangsta rappers) we need to respect ourselves before we can demand respect from anyone else.

Jay and Kaos I like your views on this topic. It is really sad that this information (true or untrue) is circulating the media be it audio and video. It is even more disappointing of the timing of such disheartening information. the Olympics. I mean come on this is when the world is at play, friendship and bonds or made by men and women alike, (mostly young), heroic activities will be displayed, there will be test of HUMAN endurance and strategies, some will laugh because they've won, and some will cry just because they are there. Some will be overwhelmed by there OWN performance..(THAT 100 mtrs and no joke). But in the end all can say "I'm here and I MADE it". Now you got someone, somebody, some organization saying they ain't serving Blacks? WHY? Why take that away from the athletes/black patrons? It's not just about alcohol or going to another country to get plastered, it's about the whole experience. Some of those athletes trained for 4 years to get where they are now, and some been training all their life....Now they want to pull some racist shyt by saying they can't have a damn Beer be cause of the color of their skin? and Mongolian people or rumored to being denied service to?
If they are going by want they see on TV and assuming that all black people are violent, rob, cheat, and steal then shame on them. I for one believe that we are a blessing to this EARTH, Hell we good in every damn thang!!!!! (just realize that I used Earth, Hell and damn...oops can I do that?). O I'm sure that there are some violent Chinese people to....what a poor judgment of character if that's what they going by. Please for the Love of God let this be a rumor (I looooove the Olympics, seriously).
If this rumor is true and actually has life in it what will we do? will we boycott it and throw up the closed fist like they did in the 76 Olympics?

Nope will not boycott, it is sad but, we have to step up and take responsibilty for our own actions. Now I do not agree it is right by any means but at the same time for every one of us that is trying to be productive in this society we have four or five who are life criminals. That is the reality. I can look at my own family and see the mix. It would be nice if the black people boycotted while they were there by not patronizing those who feel that way. No doubt we have gotten a bum rap in the deal but it is what it is. We need to start educating our youth as to the importance of first impressions and the way to interact with society. All of our ills are not caused by the White Man. In a lot of cases we are our own worst enemy.  Forgive any typo's please. |

I don't think white people would stop supporting it now. If this were the 90s then I'd say yeah but now a lot of them and Asians like our music more than we do and spend a whole lot of money on it. White kids in Oak Ridge, TN are not learning about Lil Wayne and TI from Black kids in Oak Ridge, TN cause it ain't that many...they are watching BET, MTV, VH1, etc.

No. ACCOUNTABILITY. We love to whine and complain about what people do to us. How people treat us. When we treat ourselves and each other with respect, we will gain the respect of others.
People around the world know nothing of African-Americans but what they see on television. When they see us acting like people with some sense, maybe their perceptions will improve. Too bad so many of "us" don't see the need to do better. |

You know....they called me Oreo when I was little. I had always thought it was a play on my name but it wasn't until college I understood what that meant. I don't know if it was because of how I dressed (age appropriate but cute), because I was NOT a fast azz, because I spoke proper English or what. But after I thought about it I wasn't even mad about it because ALL of these people were my friends once we were older and a lot of them weren't really doing all that well.

I know the oreo you speak of Bunny...that isn't who I speak of. I was accused of that too because I got good grades, wore polo and rugby shirts, khakis and shoes...that was just hate.
The OREO I speak of is black but doesn't really like black folks at all. They buy into what the majority say about US and seperate themselves because deep down they have issues with black folks...systematically they have lighten their insides until they become just like the Cookie...OREOS.

I agree with VP....and everything on earth AIN"T the black man's fault. You can't take a whole race of people and say they are bad just because a few knuckle heads. Every nationality has knuckles head and bad examples. I knew some of ya'll won't admit it but when we/you were little and growing up watching Bruce Lee movies some of us thought ALL Chinese people knew Karate....lol. Sounds dumb as hell don't it?...lol. Just because it's on TV or presented to the world like that, that doesn't mean it's true. All of us are not bad people. Most of us actually buy things at the corner store, and NOT rob it. Some of us can take Lil ole lady across the street and NOT take her purse. What I'm saying is We are NOT a bad people. It is perceived and projected that way because we are a feared people.

I would say more black folks are law abiding than not. Besides if they publicized all the Good black folks do and have done throughout history just imagine how we'd be perceived. I forgot most of US don't know that we have done a lot thus we don't trumpet it. :smh:
