Have any of you ever listened to him or watched his show on CNN.
I like him so far (althought that cotton-pickin' thing stung me).
I think his show is quite informative.
What do you think about him?? I'll be back when I have time to really talk about him.

Lady- I think Lou Dobbs has a genuis-like financial mind. I tuned in to the Lou Dobbs "Money Matters" show in the 90's on CNN. It was a tremendous show with great economic insight...
Now, since he's become a social issues commentator for CNN, I think he's a closet racist when it comes to his stance on immigration...I think he's way off base and sounds too much like a Militia Man representative. He hides his racism behind terrorism....

He does sound racist, but he always has numbers to back up what he's saying. (Although you can find the numbers to back up whatever your agenda is).
And he does stay on illegal immigration, but I think it is a big problem.

His immigration stance leans too much against the country of Mexico. His opinion that mexican immigration has a "grave" impact on this country's economy is hardly right. I would like to see Dobbs hit Bush on the trade deficit and our foreign policy as it relates to our economy....or hit the Bush administration with their policy on commercial and personal lending pratices from major lending institutions. I have yet to here Dobbs ( a wall streeter) really criticize how the government allows for the stock market to be owned some 17 percent from foreign investors...now to me, that's an immigration issue I'd like to see him tackle, not immigrants that are looking for a better life like his Scottish or Irish ancestors did in the 19th and 20th century.....

Ok, I guess I see your point...you don't like the fact that he does not address all of the issues affecting our economy. It just seems like the illegal immigration problem is a pretty easy fix. I don't think we can eliminate it, but we can certainly curtail it a bit. Aren't you sick of them cutting through your back yard? We need a fence on the border. This is a country of laws and I don't understand why no one is seriously addressing this problem.

Most of the mexican immigrants that do come here illegally are hard working people who want a better life. The only issue I see that white won't admit to is that the brown population is outgaining the white population, so now, we have a "immigration problem"...lol! Immigrants come here and cut green lawns, pick fresh fruit and wash our dishes at fine restuarants...and now we have an immigration problem?...I don't think so. We have three major concerns in this country 1. Antiquated education system 2. Lack of Healthcare for taxpayers 3. Terrorism What does that have to do with illegal immigration?

You know what... until a terrorist attack comes from the south of the border, politicians will either be quiet about immigration (as they vie for the new voting bloc) or they'll say there's NOTHING practical we can do.
Fences won't work... people cut through them, dig under them, jump over them. Border patrols won't stop it either. They could both help the situation. But until we address the reason why they're coming, all we're doing is plugging holes in the dam.
But I do agree with one thing... either we change the laws or we enforce them.

What about the strain on taxpayers as we pay for education and healthcare for these people? I realize that a lot of them come and do the type of work you listed, however, I used to work in the staffing industry and I know for a fact that a lot of manufacturers want illegal immigrants so they can pay them less. I have a bilingual friend who works in staffing. Her last assignment they only wanted mexicans. These were decent paying jobs that included benefits. No one would get rich working them, but it would provide a decent quality of life for someone. The reason that the immigration laws are not being enforced is because big business wants them here.

what strain?
I currently work in the healthcare industry (global medical), and I can assure you that the strain that taxpayers feel don't come from immigrants. Hell, most immigrants waive their option to medical benefits, lol!...
The strain comes from the Rx lobbyist and the companies they represent. Also, the phony and bloated Reasonable and Customary charges that hopsital and doctor networks agree on...
....and finally, it also comes from the bullshyt that I sell to large global insurance companies to protect the officers of their respective companies. ;D

Honestly, I agree with much of what *I* have heard him say. My boyfriend hates him, and says he has some information linking him with some white-supremecist organization. I'll try and get him to re-send me the information and post it here.
I agree with you, Prissy. Illegals are here because they are WANTED. Politicians PRETEND they don't want them, but as you can see, they're not doing anything to stem the tide of illegal immigration.
A lot of times, people get upset with Hispanics. I think that anger is misplaced. Personally, the ones I know are cool and really good people. I understand why they came here, and I'm not angry at THEM. But I think we need to shore up our borders for safety reasons. We have NO idea who is even over here. You wouldn't open your door wide, and say, "Everybody come in! I'm having a cookout!" and have NO idea who the hell is in your house! We're essentially doing that.

Actually, Lou Dobbs DID address the bailout of U.S. financial institutions by foreign interests. (That's how I know about it-- I really only absorb Wolf Blitzer and Lou Dobbs).
NOTHING in this country happens by accident. It is all planned by someone.
Big business hires illegals to work for less than the minimum wage and offers them no benefits, therefore decreasing their overhead and increasing their bottom lines. To continue these practices, they bankroll politicians (like the senators McCain and Clinton), to keep them in their corner. In return, these politicians turn a blind eye to the maladies that illegal immigration causes.
From what I understand, illegal immigration does cost us-- in terms of free schooling for their children, and when they go to the emergency room, they receive treatment, too.
People make the argument that illegals do jobs that we wouldn't ordinarily do, but who did these jobs before the current influx of illegals???
What's wrong with documented migrant workers?? They send the money back home, anyway.

That's what I've been asking for years. Who was working before illegals took these jobs? And some industries--such as chicken processing plants (an EXTREMELY dangerous job with high injury rates) ONLY hire illegals. Since so many people get injured, they don't have to worry about them suing or needing health care or workman's comp.

Sure, it cost....But it doesn't even appear on the economic radar screen. The GAO doesn't even report what immigrants cost this country...I've heard "billions" being thrown around by politicians, but until you show me a financial statement that shows EXACTLY what immigration cost us, I'll stay skeptical on that subject... What I am sure cost us, though, is the war on terror, the trade deficit, the "war" on drugs and oil and gas companies et al....

Also, with whatever they cost, what about what they BRING to the economy? They are opening businesses, shopping at Wal-Mart, eating out, buying clothes and shoes, buying vehicles, and even paying IN to Social Security.
