I went to a program that honored my father and they talked about the ripple effect in the black community. He was mentored by the first black law student at the University of Oklahoma, and by that I fall into her ripple effect of continuing to help others.
The more I think about it, the more I understand that sometimes all it does take is 1 person to believe and work with someone, and the effects can be profound.
What are some of the things that you do (personal, work related, org related) to extend your ripple effect in your community.

I tried to be a mentor, but I feel like a fish swimming upstream after a huge storm.
I'm doing other things now.

This didn't happen to me, but its an example of the ripple effect. We were interviewing a guy, and we asked him why he wanted to be an Alpha. He mentioned being 8 years old and having members of Alpha Phi Alpha come to the Boys and Girls club when he was there...he even remembered their names and what school they were from. He gave a summary of the presentation they did. I was surprised that it stuck with him that long...and now he's frat. Maybe he will reach someone the same way he was reached.

Mississippi the most obese state in the nation, with more than half of that statistic encompassing the black community. Even though I'm not in the best health, I'm trying to change that. And I'm trying to start a boot camp (for free) so people can just come out and exercise while having fun. I think maybe if people see that exercise doesn't have to be painful, they'll be more inclined to participate. Maybe I can help bring the numbers on our position in the USA down . Anyway, hopefully the idea that it can be fun will spark something around here.

^^That's a beautiful thing Soror. I may just do that in my community. We can all motivate each other because I like working out outdoors but don't like doing it alone. I think groups are more safer and fun. Especially in the we hours of the morning or when it cools off after sunset during the warmer seasons. You just gave me an idea...thanks!!
