I feel that the Father wanted me to share the subject of forgiveness with some of you in the OOA Fam.
For the past few weeks - forgiveness has been made alive to me. Sure, we hear it all the time; we heard it as youth, on Sesame Street, in school as well as church. Sadly, the biblical concept of forgiveness along with many biblical concepts have become religious in our minds. It wasnt until recently that the Holy Spirit has been making this concept rhema.
As believers/followers of Christ, we are taught to forgive others so that God may forgive us. Having a heart of unforgiveness causes us to become tormented in our minds with people and situations that have harmed us. Unforgiveness hardens the heart and keeps us from being blessed and keeps God the Father from forgiving us. Unforgiveness hinders relationships, destroys the body and pollutes the soul. Another thing is that what is inside you comes out. People can sense what is on the inside of you when you express yourself and how you carry yourself. If you are holding on to a hurtful past it becomes somewhat calcified and that can turn into bitterness. As a result it manifests in the natural. Others around you will be able to see it in some form.
The bible says for us to forgive others that sin against us so that He may forgive us of our sins.
Matthew 6:14-15 states- "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
The bible also states: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you" (Eph 4:32). "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Col 3:13).
The phrase, "as the Lord forgave you," suggests He expects you to forgive others to the same degree He forgave you — completely.
Again - i believe that this concept has become religious just like the mere fact of "going" to church. Its much deeper than that. For me, the scripture and concept has been made alive even though I ALREADY knew about it. Its much different to put the Word into action and meditate on it.
If someone has done you wrong, or you have done wrong to someone - believe in the seriousness of taking it to the Father for release and forgiveness. Its not an easy thing and you may not forget it, but know that just giving it to Him with the intention of forgiveness is the start of release. Again, unforgiveness hinders relationship, hardens the heart and pollutes the soul - because you are not free. Newsflash: Unforgiveness also binds up your blessings!! How can He bless you with the things He has in store, when you are holding on to hurt and pain bc you dont give it to Him?
Maybe it was a family member, friend, co worker, spouse, sorority or fraternity member who caused hurt or pain that has developed torment in your mind. Give it to God for release so that He can release you.
Maybe you did something wrong to someone - resolve the issue in your heart with God and give it to Him.
If you feel led - go to that person and confess their or your offense and ask for forgiveness/forgive them.
Matthew 18:15 - ""If your brother offends you, go, confront him when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have won back that believer."
An example that comes to mind:
Matthew 18 :21-35
Mat 18:21 Then came Peter and said to him, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? until seven times?
Mat 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven.
Mat 18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, who would make a reckoning with his servants.
Mat 18:24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, that owed him ten thousand talents.
Mat 18:25 But forasmuch as he had not [wherewith] to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Mat 18:26 The servant therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Mat 18:27 And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
Mat 18:28 But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred shillings: and he laid hold on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay what thou owest.
Mat 18:29 So his fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee.
Mat 18:30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay that which was due.
Mat 18:31 So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were exceeding sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
Mat 18:32 Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me:
Mat 18:33 shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on thee?
Mat 18:34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due.
Mat 18:35 So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.
I can't emphasize enough how important it is to forgive. Even if you have unforgiveness towards the Lord. Give it to Him. Many of us are suffering persecution right now and we need to turn the other cheek in our hearts first and trust in the Father using these trials to perfect us and bring the kingdom of God here on this earth now. Christ Jesus said that in order to follow Him and be a disciple of His we will suffer persecution to perfect us and to become a vessel of honor for His use.
I never said that you will forget the situation - but like i did say, giving it to God is the start. Ask for forgiveness AND forgive others who have wronged you. Whenever you have thoughts of ur painful or hurtful past or situation, cast it out in the name of Jesus and ask Him to purify your thoughts. Meditate on the goodness of God and know that He already knows.
The Word tells us to delight ourselves in the Lord. He doesnt want us to suffer in our situations - give it to Him for release and ask Him for the answer so that you may be free in Him.
