Yanno I have seen this pic from as long as I can remember comprehending images So here I was this morning eating breakfast and watching this youtube video about how Bill Maher predicts Obama maybe assassinated and at the end of the spliced video one of the guys with MLK Jr. at his death said something that created a WTF moment. Rev Samuel "Billy" Lyles stated that after he saw MLK Jr. was shot that he reached in his hand and removed the cigarette he was smoking. He also removed the cigarettes from his pocket as well. He stated that King didn't like the kids to see him smoke and he did it so that his memory wouldn't be tarnished being pictured clutching a cigarette. So being me and how think I paused the video and went back to look at the picture that you see above. I put myself there and I asked myself.." If a friend of mine had just been shot by a sniper whom I can't see, what would I do?" Then the epiphany happened. What made Mr. Lyles feel so safe that he could reach down on a man who has been shot to remove cigarettes and not fear to be shot himself? Furthermore what made all of them feel safe that they could stand up on the balcony over MLK Jr's body and not risk being shot themselves? Would it have been more plausible to pick up Dr. King and either rush him downstairs or back into the Hotel Room? Please note that just 18 months prior in August of 1966 Charles Whitman went on a sniper spree at the campus of Texas University. He shot for a total of 96 minutes! And he was in the open as his vantage point was a Tower. Also the picture shows ALL of the men with MLK Jr standing on the balcony pointing, pandering etc. What or WHO made them feel so safe that the sniper was done. How did they all POINT to the SAME direction. I'm sure the rifle made an echo. So ask yourself... If your friend were shot dead in front of you would you pick him up and move to cover for saftey...attempt to go to the hospital or anything OR Would you think that the same police forces that have arrested you, acted in cahoots with the FBI to spy on you while in town, lead dawgs to attack you, would provide you safety as you give a press conference on the fucking scene of the crime. Share your thoughts

Alls I now is that many people dislike Jesse to this day because they think he had something to do with MLK's death a la Farrakhan/Malcolm X.

Considering that someone knew that he would be on the balcony of that particular hotel during a specific time, it is fair to say that his habits were determined and reported (ie; he likes a smoke after a get down). This was in addition to the government agencies stalking and spying on him (all hotel, motels, his home & offices were bugged). These intrusive events most likely could not have occurred without up close and personal INSIDE help.

my sister and I had lunch with Billy Kyles at the museum (after the expansion ceremony) - he said the same things - but he also said that they were all in shock of what happened. shock will make u do crazy things..... just like how Mrs. JFK supposedly crawled to the back of the motorcade to get pieces of JFK's brain when he was shot? I do remember Kyles saying that someone ran back in the room (Jesse or Abernathy) to get a sheet from the bed to cover MLKs wounds... i also wonder though - (u know how when u tell a story over and over and u start piecing things together or out of sequence) - how long after he was shot that he removed the cigarettes....I do though, remember him saying that he grabbed Martins cigarettes. But geez he has told that story over and over for decades!!!

I never considered this angle before. But you are right, I think if I were on that balcony I would be trying to pull him inside, along with getting myself in and out of harms way. That is something to think about.
I did watch the CNN special on the assassination and there were a lot of unanswered questions.

No it looked as if she reached to pull the convertible top or to get up out the vehicle and the Secret Service officer jumped on the back and pushed her into the seat as they sped away. Doing what these men did would be the equivalent of them stopping the motorcade, putting a sheet over him and waiting to police arrived, AND doing a press conference on the spot. Sorry no excuse it doesn't make sense that not ONE person sought safety. Watch the video here from the 1:30 point and see for yourself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXv-v4NUf9U&feature=related

I mean i would - like i said "shock". I am sure it scared her when she saw what he looked like and he kind leaned over on her.....why would she grab pieces of his head? I believe she was trying to get out!! Think about it. You're in the convertible with ur SO. He/she starts grabbing their neck. You lean over to them and grab them like "whats wrong" and their head is blown off. Look how close Mrs. JFK was to him when his head was shot.....she was in shock tryin to get out or get to the secret service dude... i love conspiracies though....

VP made me get up & go to my bookcase & find Rev. Ralph Abernathy's memoir,"And The Walls Came Tumbling Down"...
(page 441)His eyes grew calm and he moved his lips. I was certain he understood and was trying to say something. Then,in the next instant, I saw the understanding drain from his eyes and leave them absolutely empty. I looked more carefully at the wound and noticed the glistening blood and a flash of white bone. Then Kyle was standing over me,terror in his face. (Rev. Abernathy says) "Billy, quick! "Go call an ambulance!" He disappeared inside, and I glanced at the courtyard below, consciously aware for the first time that somebody somewhere had fired a gun. It had only been a matter of seconds, but no one was visible in the parking lot. Jesse, Ben Branch, and the others had apparently taken cover-where,I didnt know. I scanned the street, the rooftop, but I saw no one with a gun. The seconds ticked off.A couple of cars drove leisurely by. I cradled Martinand tried not to think what might happen next. Then somewhere I heard a loud wail. I peered into the motel room and saw Billy Kyle, face down on the bed, screaming." "This is no time to lose our heads" I said,as calmly as I could."Get an ambulance."
Maybe Mr Kyle remembers things a little differently...
and on page 444: I walked over with Bernard to where he was lying, his breathing nothing more than prolonged shudders. Somehow I knew that they would be taking his body as soon as he was gone,so the first thing I did was remove the things from his pockets and put them in my own. Then,as the remaining doctors and nurses stood and watched,I took him in my arms and held him. The breaths came farther and farther apart. Then,a pause came that lengthened until I knew it would never end.
Exalt to VP for "looking beyond the picture". If some of ya'll in my age group remember,a LOT of peeps were angry at Rev.Abernathy for writing this book because he included that Rev.Dr. King did have a lot of "liasions",including getting into a FIGHT with one the night before he was assassinated. The community felt that Rev Abernathy shouldnt have "put 'the business' out there",especially since Coretta was still alive.
Rev. Abernathy also punched holes in Jesse Jackson's story that Jesse had held Rev Dr King as he lay dying...but Rev. Abernathy basically wrote"maybe that's what Jesse wished had happened". He never called Jesse a outright liar, like some do.
<---goes to put the book back...
