Before you became a Greek, what were some of the biggest misconceptions you had about joining a BGLO in general? Whether it was what you observed as a Non-Greek or bad advice you received from someone (who thought they knew everything about Greek life). I had a general idea about the Greek culture, but there were a few misconceptions I had heard (but not necessarily believed) based on what some upper classmen (Non-Greeks) were telling me:
- When you got in a Frat, if you got in a Frat, you would be forced to cut all of your other friends off and only roll with the bros.
- It was mandatory that everyone on a Alpha, Omega or Sigma line had to visit the hospital at least once before they could cross i.e. The Fear Factor
- You are bound to do 5 or more years in college if you’re in a Frat due to failing grades because of…….your process, partying too much, too much time devoted to your Frat (projects, service, making members, etc)
- Once you get in the Frat, if you get in the Frat, you are bound to become brainwashed, lose your identity, and become stuck up.
Etc, Etc, Etc…..
And come to find out (after becoming a bro) most of the people spreading doubt as to why one shouldn’t pursue a Frat were either rejected from various frats or either dropped line themselves…Aint that some stuff??

I am afraid to state some of the things that I heard. Basically, I heard that it was a rigourous and difficult process and ony the tried and true blue will prevail. I definately see the truth in that statement.  |

I definately see the truth in that statement. Yeah, depending which route you went...there is definetly no misconception in that...except for that "blue" mess your talking about...lol..J/K South |

I heard that Alphas were sugary and while on line for them you had to Share an IceCream cone with your Lb's....when I got into Kappa...It was confirmed when I saw 5 of them sharing a banana split in the crowd when we were on stage stepping.

Ok, I didn't think you had to wear your colors all the time but you could never wear anybody elses.

If you didn't fit the stereotype I wonder Who let you in?
And a whole lot of other foolishness. Thank God I didn't cross anything my sophomore year. I found out (w/o) joining a org that all of these were false.

I thought that their were no gay men in Omega.....boy was i shocked when i found out That Langston Hugh's was a gay atheist communist sympathizer.... it made me look at To Artina in another light..... Langston Hughes When i was coming around their was no info about rituals we thought that the old history books were the top secret stuff needless to say i was shocked when i heard the ritual and began to learn it. I thought all the ques stepped with 3rd D precision Thought the sigmas were the worst steppers until we had a sigma step show and them up north sigmas came down to Hampton and shocked the campus with an amazing show without all that hand slap jive. I thought the Q dog image was official i thought George Clinton was a Q Dog By the way I took a picture with George Clinton in Ogden hall pre Saved Days post Saved Dayz would still take a picture with Mr. Clinton and would slip him my remix lyrics to his classic unofficial q anthem ....... kirk franklin and him could get that done STOMP the devil under my feet gospel street remix Vol 1. |

Man oh Man.....Atomic Dog. Seriously, ya'll Ques (or ex-Que in your case) owe George Clinton some serious royalty money...Cats lose their mind over that song..haha. Water, we actually had a pretty big Frat fight one semester all over that one song...I kid you not. We had a party during our Alpha week one year, and one of the Ques goes up to the DJ with the record and tells him that WE said to put that particular song on. This cat (who was a local dj but not a college student) actually plays the song. So the Omegas get to hoppin and meanwhile all of my chapter bros and I are looking at each other like “What the..”. So one of our bro’s up near the DJ Booth goes over and demands the DJ turn the song off (as we were actually paying him to do the gig). So the Dj turns the song off…and the Ques actually get offended that we had the song turned off…. at OUR party…LOL! So the Ques bruhz step to us with an appetitie for drama and us Alpha Bros glady accepted…Next thing you know….We got a WWE Royal Rumble up in the gym…….all over that Omega unofficial anthem..Crazy (and quite silly in hindsight) Cool thing about those days though….cats could bang out, go our separate ways, see each other in Finance class that Monday morning and act like nothing really ever happened: “Yo..my bad homie” “No doubt man…we better than that” “Ya’ll going to the Comedy Show tonight?” “No Doubt son…you? “Yessir…We’ll see you up in there” “Bet” Easy as that. These days, I think things done changed though....... |
