I actually started making a post about this last night...then I figured, "M'eh, this isn't even news". I should have known better. It's ALL OVER the news. They are ACTUALLY blowing this up to be a big deal! www.wxyz.com/news/story.aspx?content_id=13d1f66a-488b-46d3-9d3b-6632e0a8f1f7Now I'll be the first to admit I don't like to be called "sweetie" or GIRL if I feel someone's being condecsending--and a LOT of people at work tend to call me and the Black women here "girl" (having said that, I live in the south, and sometimes folks call people "shug", "hun", "sweetie", etc.--especially waitresses. It depends on the situation.) HOWEVER, Obama apologized for his slip-up. Should this be today's "big news" or the next "scandal"? I also heard that it was Hillary's folks that are blowing this up. Maybe this was the "something big" that LadyL alluded to in another post.

That was sooooooo nothing! Nothing!
He bushed her off! That's it! I'm country, so I'm used to these generic pet names. They need to come better than this! Really.

They are trying hard to find some way to get Obama. This shouldn't even be newsworthy.

If he calls me sweetie, I would start swooning and getting all giggly. I certainly wouldn't be offended.

I think the main problem with this is that a lot of women voters are angry that Hillary lost. The feminists are going to be all over this as an example of how Obama doesn't understand women. I saw 2 women being interviewed on Bill O'Reilly saying that they would vote for McCain over Obama. I don't understand where the anger comes from, Obama won fair. If Hillary had convinced the superdelegates to overrule the vote, that would have been cause for anger.

Feminists with good common sense (such as myself ;D ) know what time it is.

If the reporter herself was not offended and wasn't complaining (which it appears she WASN'T) the fact that anyone else made it an issue once again proves how desperate they are to try to destroy this man.
Their desperation proves that while as much as they claim the opposite, they are scared as hell of Obama...not because of his lack of experience as they claim, but just the opposite; his intellect, his worldliness, and the fact that they know he will restore a level of respect for this country around the world that Dubya has destroyed over the past 7 years.
Contrary to the gun-totin' cowboys and warhawks in the U.S., most civilized nations on the globe actually appreciate a leader's ability to initiate and share intellectual dialogue, and discuss ways and means by which peace can be acheieved.

But Robe, isn't it the reporter who let the media have the tape? I mean, it was her phone...how'd they get the message?

I'm not sure how they got it, but from what I could understand, she didn't appear to be making a case of it. She was covering an appearance by the democratic nominee for president. That's news within itself.

Plus, I don't think it was right for her to just blurt out a question like that--especially one so broad, open-ended and that w0uld require a lengthy answer ("What are you going to do for the American auto workers?") He was caught off-guard and was telling her that they were going to have a media availability afterwards--and that that would be the appropriate time/place to answer her question.
The fact that he apologized speaks volumes to me. He has done things like this all along, though--not just when he started getting a lot of scrutiny. I remember EARLY in the process (when all of the other Democratic contenders were in the race) him calling some guy and apologizing for something else. That tells me a bit about his character.
I also don't think he is disrespectful to women as a common practice--Michelle ain't playing that isht!
