Campbell C. Johnson, George E. Brice, Jesse Heslip, William Stuart Nelson, and William I. Barnes had a meeting with Woodrow Wilson in 1916 as concern to establishing a Negro Officer Training Program. They were only given 10 mins but it went well beyond the time. The president of the United States was so impressed that after the meeting he stated and I directly quote:
“Gentlemen, I do not know where the camp will be. I do not know when it will be established, but I promise you that it will be established, and in a few days you will hear from me." END QUOTE
The PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES communicated with George W. Cook another OMEGA MAN who was the Secretary of HU that the Camp would be started and to start holding sign ups. This happened in JUNE 1916. The WAR DEPT PICKED FORT DES MOINES, IA not Omega.
We sent 14 men and 14 finished. Of those 14 men Frank Coleman, Edgar A. Love, Walter Mazyck and Charles Young (who would later become Colonel) ALL WENT.

FORT Des Moines, IA camp proceeded SATC and SATC proceeded ROTC. Get your facts right.

Dayum Cam you were thinking what I was thinking. This negro NOPE doesnt understand that after 1917 the War Dept started putting programs on the Campuses themselves. Howard had one, Wilberforce had on, Morehouse, Fisk, etc. They were all ran by black soldiers who graduated from Fort Des Moines. After the surviving soldiers came back from WW1 the training programs picked right back up where they left off. We established 7 war chapters during this time and thats how we got on the campuses in the south. |
