“A moral or theological appeal based on a white definition of morality or theology will serve as a detriment to our attainment of black freedom. The only option we blacks have is to fight in every way possible, so that we can create a definition of freedom based on our own history and culture. We must not expect white people to give us freedom. Freedom is not a gift, but a responsibility, and thus must be taken against the will of those who hold us in bondage.” James Cones www.hds.harvard.edu/news/events_online/ingersoll_2006.html

James Cone is a little off if you ask me... I read some of his stuff. He has some real good points in his book "God of the Oppressed", BUT he relies far too heavily on the Black and White social distinctions IMO.
God is not bound to black, white or orange, and as believers we shouldn't be either. He argues that apart from understanding the black experience you CANNOT know God in a true sense. While I do believe that God is the God of the oppressed, that in no way limits God to only that parameter.
Just my .02
Not to mention, he teaches at Union Theological Seminary (aka the most PRO gay institution in the world) smh.

Nupey always loking for a way to justify his own "hot" sinner mess(es).
Now to the subject at hand- Black Liberation Theology is a nutshell is nothing more than the Jews mistake of thinking Jesus was coming to free them from Roman oppression. What happened to the Jews. The 70 A.D. destruction!!!!!!!!! What has happened to us believing that Jesus is to free us from the oppression of the white man and not our sins? "Self-Destruction, you're headed for self destruction". Promiscuity, AIDS, Illegitimacy, Down-Low, Abortion, etc. All behaviors of which the black elite are silent, including the yellow-backed preachers of liberation theology......... It's lonely at the bottom, but I thank God for J and W for being among the 7000.......

I can't agree with BLT in it's entirety because in practice (and even in it's theory) it can be fatalistic.
It was very popular in Latin America and poor countries like Haiti and Nicaragua.
