Follow me on this one. A young bro from my UG chapter told me about an on campus brawl between the Sigma’s and Kappa’s at a certain school last night. My bros were road trippin’ to hang out with frat and attend a Comedy show being held in the gym. Well after the show, the Sigma’s were having a probate show to bring out their new boys that crossed. Well during the probate, after the greetings, poems, etc… the boys went into the “diss” portion of their routine before they were formally introduced. Now the “diss” portion has become somewhat common at Probates and in MOST instances, this is nothing more than friendly competition and smack talk . So any Greek that has been around for a minute and hears their org. get dissed during a probate can just laugh it off and let the new boys (or girls) have their moment. However, according to my young bro, this one got a little ugly. The Sigma boys did a verbal chant dissing the Alphas, Ques and Iotas and the members of those mentioned frats were just cool and having fun with it like “whatever”. But then…when they get to the Kappa diss, they not only do a chant that makes reference to them “skating”, but then out comes a Sigma from behind the stage WEARING a Kappa Alpha Psi shirt and he is on actual roller skates  …just skating across the stage with a smile on his face. Ok, so the crowd is in stitches and everybody is dying laughing..except for the Kappas . They are understandably Heated and some go up on the stage to ask the dude to take the shirt off. Words get exchanged as the Sigmas felt they disrespected their boys probate by coming on the stage and the Kappas feel disrespected by a non member wearing their shirt. Long story short..an ugly fight breaks out between the two groups, campus security has to break it up, the probate gets shut down, and everybody is forced out the gym. Now in my opinion, that is definitely an example of probate dissing going to far. Ok, to have someone on actual skates is one thing and kind of funny……but blatantly wearing another org’s letter’s on your chest to get your joke across = Not Cool! I can definitely understand the Kappa’s anger on that one. And before any Sigma wonders…..No, I wouldn’t even advocate my own bro’s doing something like that in an Alpha probate for the sake of some laughs. Mocking another Frat’s letters TO THAT EXTENT is serious business and will almost always lead to what went down last night. Now maybe im an old head that’s out the loop and the greek culture is a little different on campuses today. Or maybe this group of Sigmas and Kappas had some sort of long standing beef…I don’t really know. But that level of disrespect is just wild. It seems like at least one old head should have shot down that idea from the giddy up...but then again, maybe there wasn’t any old heads on the scene. Again I don’t know…but to me, that’s just the next level of dissing right there . What do ya’ll think about that?? |

Nupey...would you and your Reds have let that ride if you were there and took it with a grain of salt...Or would you be ready for homie to take off YOUR letters immeadiately? I mean this is something thats seems like a no brainer. They would have to know that things could potentially get SUPAUGLY by taking it that far. Maybe the Sigs just didnt care...who knows. |

Yeah, I agree with that going too far. I've seen almost every org take it too far in one case or another, but I definitely disagree with wearing other org's para during the disses. I prefer Probates where everyone greets everyone with respect and keeps it moving, but thats just me.

Yeah...Cold, I mean right now on 3/14/08, if I were to see that and it was OUR frat getting dissed, I may feel some way about it but Im a little too old and too grown to be fighting college kids (lol). But looking back at the 21, 22, 23 year old version of Iceman and some of the hotheads in my chapter at the time....it definetly would have been a royal rumble up in that piece. And what also kind of sucks for the Sigma boys (that were crossing) is that their probate experience is now kind of forever tarnished due to it getting shut down before they could reveal themselves under their hockey masks......Dag |

I don't know if it was worth fighting over, but the Sigma's went too far wearing the actual Kappa letters. They could have gotten their point across by just wearing red and white.
It would make me wonder if the Sigma's really wanted to be Kappa's.

The actual wearing of Kappa's letters was disrespectful, and I think most of y'all know how I feel about someone other than a DULY INITIATED memeber of Alpha Phi Alpha wearing my letters. While I am usually the diplomat and peace-maker, I advocate the kicking of one's ass for doing something like that!! They could have put on a red and white shirt and let that do....but then again, they could have left that shit alone to begin with. After all, this was PROBATE show!!
When our new members are being presented to their respective campuses, it needs to be all about their pride and joy in finally reaching that milestone, but like so many other things, folks have "furked" up the spirit and intent of new member probates, too.

bruhs were outta order for sportin' kappa letters. the point could've been just as easily made wearing the colors. I believe it was done on purpose, with full knowledge of what was gonna jump off. Bruhs picked a fight and the nupes fell right in line.....

These are consequences that I'm NOT willing to deal with over some fool putting on my letters...
But the Bruhs on the other hand, they would've been willing to fight, and there isn't much I COULD'VE done to stop it. |

At my probate almost 12 years ago, we had to greet all the orgs on the yard beacuse they all spent at least one or two nights "getting to know us" during our process. I mean I understand the dissing to add the humor element into the probate...and im good for a laugh. But I thing think all the real competitive showmanship should take place at the stepshows, the partys, the wood parties.....or even here on OO when we have a Alphas vs the Kappas session...hahaha |
