OOA Folks, I'd like to know whether you would advise your [future] child to marry someone like you. If yes, why? What makes you so special? If not, why? Are you giving any thought to changing those things that give you pause about recommending someone like you as a life partner for your child?
Run it, please.

Absolutely I would. Not only my daughters, but I wish my sisters and close female friends would marry someone like me.
Not that I'm perfect, but as far as my relationships I'm loving, loyal, honest, noble, respectful, protective, and chivalrous. And God is my guide. I wouldn't want anything else for my daughters' mates.

I would have to say yes as well. I actually spoke on this in a blog post I wrote a while ago. Hold up a sec... *plays elevator music* Ok, found it. *excerpt from Good. Great. Marvelous. If there are two of me then what makes me special?
There can be only one! (Highlander reference)

Hmm, I suppose my son wouldn't make out too bad if he married someone who is: spiritual, loyal, attractive, ambitious, nurturing, respectful, submissive and an excellent cook who was raised right. I'd say so even if all that good was tempered by the fact that she: is unabashedly emotional, but not terribly emoTIVE, rational to the point of being annoying, a little judgmental, occasionally bougie, plays too much and has a mean lazy streak.

I'm calling on nyunupe Socratic-style. The streets say you have a daughter. Run it, please. Okay, coo.... Parents generally don't like what they see in their kids that mirror what they don't like about themselves. So we work harder at changing those behavioral modes...it usually doesn't work and in some ways, it works for the child, in a wierd kinda way. This is my challenge... But Leja, I honestly think I lack a good answer for you becasue I think God brings people together. So in that frame of mind, whatever your qualities are as a person, God will bring you someone who, if you will, ying your yang and visa-verse.... get what I'm sayin?
