This is all over the news, how come we ain't talking about it? Thoughts? Are you protesting? Do you not care? Surprised?
I heard the police chief stepped down today, but I would have preferred someone else stepping him down.

The anger that I have on this topic is so ............
I honestly can't articulate (shut up) how I feel about this. Its so textbook, so what we know to be true, but to see it play out in plain sight like this....
I feel like i have been watching Rosewood on repeat.....
That boy looks very similar to my 19 yr old Brother....
Its just...
I have not listened to the tapes because I don't think I could handle it. And the audacity of the cops and that neighbor who said "he should have just said what he was doing and where he was going"
1) One of the first lessons we teach kids is "stranger danger".. you see someone suspicious you running, yell, don't talk to them.
2) Who the fuck is you?
I could go on and on..

I have never been so outraged by any other event in my life. I actually found myself wishing that someone would kill this bastard and claim self-defense.

preventing myself from getting overly worked up about this situation has been a formidable challenge. I've had to mute certain accounts on twitter and avoid casually discussing it. People have commented on my under-reaction. Whatever, yo. We all have different methods of maintaining our sanity.

^^ I will casually discuss or retweet a tweet but I have tried to stay away from the phone calls, taking the hoodie pics.. alladat..
I can easily get worked up on this... easily. Mainly because this literally could have been me or someone close to me... easily.

My parents live in a mostly White neighborhood. A couple of years ago, my youngest brother (17 at the time) was walking from a neighborhood park with a hoodie on. He was stopped by the police, questioned and searched because they got calls about a "suspicious character." So I obviously wonder what if he had been approached by some nut like George Zimmerman?

I tried to give benefit of the doubt...thinking that in 2012 there must be more to this story and that the blanks would be filled in.
There is NO justifiable explanation. This whole story makes my blood boil.
And I wish certain people would not compare it to Troy Davis. It is NOT the same.
I literally FEAR being the mother to a black boy. I really do...

This is upsetting and as I watch his neighbor defend him Im even more pissed. I don't know if you're talking about the same neighbor but one guy really made me angry, and added proof to the opinion that Zimmerman killed Trayvon because he was Black. He said that they've had a surge in robberies in the neighborhood lately and the majority were committed by young Black males. Then he follows by saying this wasn't about race. Really?! Then why bring it up? He's basically saying they were already suspicious of young Black males and that fed into his need to call 911. One thing that not many people talk about, but really pisses me off is the fact that the 911 operator didn't do enough or pay attention enough to realiz ish was about to pop off. After he told the guy not to follow Trayvon and asked where he wanted to meet the officers arrived, nutjob Zimmerman said "by the mailboxes" and then changed it to "can they call me when they get here?" CLEARLY he had no intention of not following this poor child and the operator should have figured that out and pressed the issue. Then they tested the victim for drugs and not the shooter? How badly do you just not care? This whole situation is just crazy. I'm glad folks are speaking out. If Zimmerman walks I can see some rioting and a new focus on civil rights taking place.

So they...yes they "the people" say that hoodies are associated with drug deals, gang association, robberies and violence.
Sooooooooooo I ask if my brother wears his high school track HOODY does that mean he is involved in one of these activities? If I wear my university alma mater HOODY am I? If my aunt wears her Susan G. Komen HOODY is she? Their defense against his actions is based on one particular article of clothing. They need to stop it. That means everyone should watch out. Matter of fact guess I need to watch out for my cross country marathon running white neighbor who runs almost every morning, some days he is wearing a what...HOODY!

Now this is just going too far... Trayvon Martin’s family looks to trademark ‘I am Trayvon,’ ‘Justice for Trayvon’ news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/trayvon-martin-family-looks-trademark-am-trayvon-justice-142131528.htmlTrayvon Martin's mother Sybrina Fulton is seeking to trademark phrases with her son's name. According to applications filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by the family's attorney last week, Fulton wants to trademark "I am Trayvon" and "Justice for Trayvon" for use in DVDs and CDs memorializing the slain teenager. [Related: Shooting puts Wisconsin's 'castle' law under scrutiny] In the wake of the news that her son had been suspended from school after traces of marijuana were found in his book bag, Fulton said Monday that those leaking information were trying to blame the victim. "They killed my son, and now they are trying to kill his reputation," Fulton said. Fulton's trademark application could be fuel for critics who contend Martin's parents—and civil rights activists like Rev. Al Sharpton—are trying to capitalize on the killing for personal or financial gain. But Martin—who was unarmed when he was shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, in Sanford, Fla., last month—and the hooded sweatshirt he was wearing at the time he was killed, have become symbols of the country's racial divide and the pursuit of justice. Martin's family may simply be trying to gain some control over his name, which has been cropping up on t-shirts and hoodies across the country. [Photos: Thousands march for Trayvon Martin] Zimmerman's image, meanwhile, appears on a t-shirt that is causing even more furor in Florida. Zimmerman's face appears on the shirt under the phrase "P*** A** CRACKER." A photo of a Florida rapper—Plies—wearing the shirt was posted on Twitter, sparking outrage among Zimmerman's supporters.

I really wasn't trying to hear about this story, and even now...I'm avoiding a lot of the coverage because of a selfish reason...
I need to be productive!!!
I know that if I were to get sucked into the media coverage and processing all of the "He said...He said..." my blood pressure will rise, and I won't be able to think straight to do what is on my agenda.
Again, I know it's selfish, and I'm trying to determine the balance of what I should do...I'm NOT going to show up to work wearing a hoodie...but I feel there should be some sort of action taken.
I also feel like there's something not being said...the sides have been taken very quickly, and I'm concerned some other information nugget is going to be dropped.
It's a sad story and I'm at a loss...this could easily be a number of my family members, and brings to mind a few situations I was involved in that could have ended this way.
The harder I try to avoid it though, the more I hear about it. I also don't want this to be the media flavor of the month, I'm glad the U.S. Justice department is taking a look at this and it won't fall off the group consciousness once T-Pain's new album is released.

I don't think trademarking Trayvon's name is going too far. Not in this case. If his parents didn't, someone else would. It's sad that they HAD to do it, but legally they HAD to do it. I can only hope that it's them that acquired the URL trayvonmartin.com because the address is already taken. It seems like a pro-Trayvon group that's running the site right now, but what if they waited and a pro-Zimmerman group got a hold of it? You could have some of these racists assassinating his character under his own name.
Or you'd have folks using Trayvon to make money off of him that aren't even associated with him and could care less if he gets justice, just looking to sell a few t-shirts.
If there was any question about it, all you have to remember is that Disney copyrighted the name "Seal Team 6" after Osama bin Laden was taken out...
Disney y'all.
Sometimes it's not about making money, it's about protecting image/legacy. Omega Psi Phi as an organization has long since officially disassociated itself with the canine image, but we have copyrights to the image. Not to promote it, but to control if others try to use it. It's simply something that HAS to be done in this day and age. I do not fault Trayvon's parents for a second.

Hey Cold, I hear what you're saying about the law not being the problem, but I think it is... at least combined with the apparent perpetual "fear" of black people. It's like self-fulfilling prophecy... some will always be afraid of us, and thus will always meet the criteria of "fearing for their lives"
I am sad to report to you that "the next Trayvon" may have already happened.
www.hlntv.com/article/2012/03/27/wisconsin-death-unarmed-black-youth-draws-trayvon-martin-comparisons
And it's going to keep happening as long as they're allowed to used deadly force based on their fear.
