Who watched?
I flipped between that and the Oprah special...
a few thoughts
1) Who gave Magic the die slow?
2) Is SHE still alive?
3) I need a wife like Cookie
4) Karl Malone is a child molesty F' ninja
5) Why did they have Magic reading? Why tho.
6) I'm glad to see so many who were diagnosed around the same time as Magic (20 years) still alive and healthy.

LOL at Magic reading.....LOL!
I recorded the Oprah show so I could see the Annoucement. I still cringe to this day. I heard Angel Kelly, former black porn star, gave it to him.
As for the Oprah interview, some sad shit. I didn't like when Gary Houston broke down at the end after singing.

Yea, the Oprah interview was sad but I thought it was well done. Cleared up a lot of speculation. (well besides what actually killed her) I like that both Gary and Pat took up for Bobby in a sense.

I like that too. Bobby is by no means my favorite and if I ever had an idol, Whitney Houston would be it. However, the media has overblown and even made stuff up when it comes to Bobby Brown and I don't like that one bit. He is hurting too and as a damn human being I have sympathy and even empathy. Just a few days before Whitney died Bobby K, Bobby Brown and Whitney were spotted having lunch together, apparently something they did frequently.

I watched it. I also wondered why Magic was narrating. Overall, I enjoyed it. I was 11 when Magic announced his retirement due to HIV and I remember being shocked and sad because he was my 2nd favorite athlete behind Jordan.

I watched a good bit of The Announcement. Surprisingly, I didn't really feel judgmental toward Magic. (I have zero love for dudes who cheat unprotected). I've only known Magic to be HIV+. I think I vaguely remember the announcement, but I was nowhere near old enough to (1) follow basketball or (2) have the slightest idea what HIV was.
Someone, somewhere needs to explain to me just how in the hell Magic Johnson was infected (and was already deterioriating, according to Dr. Ho) and his newly pregnant wife was not. That makes positively no sense to me and until somebody shows me how such a thing is possible, I will have to stick to my conspiracy theory regarding Magic and whether he is really infected.
Cookie is beautiful. I had forgotten that. And why (lawd, why?) did they let Magic read anything? I mean....why?

HIV doesn't necessarily pass to the fetus and hmmm...is that really his child?

I read somewhere that the rate of HIV transmission from heterosexual vaginal intercourse is somewhere between 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000. Anal is much more risky. If that's true, and if Magic and Cookie were avoiding butt sex, I guess its not that surprising she didn't get infected.

You're saying for every one thousand times a woman has unprotected vaginal sex with an HIV infected male partner, only one (or so) of those events is statistically likely to result in an HIV infection for the woman?

Yeah, according to what I've read, that's it in a nutshell. For a man, the infection rate from vaginal intercourse is even lower. This is part of the reason why many were wondering if Magic caught HIV through drug use/gay sex, because statistically those are the main methods men catch the disease.

That stat is not doing it for me, man. If someone said for that EVERY one thousand incidents of heterosexual intercourse (regardless of the HIV status of either partner), one (or so) was statistically likely to yield an HIV infecteion, that would fly a little better with me.

It really is hard to believe, but I'v never seen anything different as far as statistics go. Magic's situation is why I started looking into it in the first place...I wanted to know how common it would be for an infected man to NOT infect the woman he was having unprotected sex with, because I thought it was like a certainty. Even still, 1 in 1,000 is too high for me...LOL.

well if Cold's stats are true, then the health establishment propaganda is doing its part to scare me ishless about STDs of all type despite my exceedingly low statistical likelihood of infection. It ain't safe out here, children.
AIDS...idk it's not all THAT scary to me as it is spread primarily through risks that I have never (and do not ever) intend to take. It's a lot of other ish out here though that condoms don't even care about. You mean to tell me he can wrap it up and still give me something incurable from skin/skin contact? Effouttahereman. And take your condoms with you!

LOL.. No protection from the Herp.
I haven't heard of a person with actually full blown AIDS in years (probably a decade), most cases are now HIV..
