What is it exactly that men do not understand outside of the fact that contraceptives help prevent pregnacies?
How in the dark are we regarding contraceptives and women's health?

Women who suffer from conditions related to hormonal imbalance such as ovarian cysts, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, uterine fibroids, abnormal or irregular bleeding and even acne are sometimes prescribed birth control to normalize their levels.
Another thing you all may not know is the side-effects of synthetic hormone use. For a lot of women, its not a simple as 1. pop a pill, 2. stave off pregnancy. Hair growth/loss, weight gain, nausea, breakthrough bleeding, decreased libido and mood swings could all become a reality. This doesn't even account for the organ function related side-effects that they whisper at the end of contraceptive commercials.

The former paragraph is news to me.

I read today that some women use contraceptives in order to make themselves fertile. That is, apparently certain women are unable to conceive because they menstruate and ovulate simultaneously, so a few months on the pill "corrects" that cycle and voila...babies are possible!

my cousin is a NFP (natural family planner) and she is evangelistic about the evils of hormonal birth control. Like she will lecture you for 20 minutes about why you should just count days and observe the elasticity of your vaginal secretions (I agree with you, ewww) to ascertain whether now is a "safe" time to engage in sex. Man, please.

I have several mom friends who you can ask about the effectiveness of "counting days". Perhaps at their children's next birthday party...SMH.

This was exactly why I started this thread....
I've learned more behind the 10 or so responses out of this thread than ever before...and now after reading, notwithstanding vaginal secretions, I want to learn more about the the heath issues as it relates to contraceptives.
Thanks ladies.

Sometimes it just sucks to be a woman. I can see that....If men were better, it wouldn't suck so much. I can't lie, though. It doesn't suck to be a man.
