Wow....This is a trip. I was just speaking to Chal about this..
I was a major lurkee-lurk back in, I believe, starting in 2006 or'07. This was before the Onolymous Alumni. There were soooo many personalities, if would be impossible to list all of whom I miss.
Chal made a great point that social media is a major reason why so many do not partcipate. IRL relationships have formed, all of which are understandable, of course.
I regret not participating because the apparent comradarie, intellect, and general conversation and opinions were so broad and worthwhile. I can remember many times signing off to attend classes, going home from work or signing off for the night having something to think about. I actually applied many topics that I read on OO into real life situations or would make conversation during my graduate courses around subject matters I read during my time lurking on OO.
You simply couldn't get it better no where else. I mean that. No where else. It was a medium of broad range bold and educated co-ed blackness that doesn't exist in much of our everyday lives. I was living in New Mexico at the time, so you know I was starved....
On the social media, if people have chosen FB, twitter and other mediums to this....I would just say it's too bad. OO will never be replaced by those social outlets with amazing dialouge and personalities like what was expereinced years back. It's obvious just from my few weeks or so on Onolympus Alumni that it's likely never to return to OO form.

I miss Damie Poo, Cam and Cold for the men. They always made the board more entertaining and provided sillyness as well as meaningful, thought-provoking commentary. I missed Reign and am glad he returned.
For the ladies, I would have to say AKA. She really kept the shenanigans going. BKUp and Fatal also provided comic relief and are noticed. DST91 and Prissy.
I'm sure I'm missing folks, but hey if y'all hadn't left I wouldn't have to rack my brain.

I'd love to see OO be as interesting as it was before, but I for one will make no special effort to see it happen. If it's time has come and gone, so be it. I hope the overall experience was more positive than negative for all involved but if it wasn't... again... so be it. It was what it was. |

Man.. no matter what .. this place is like home... I don't think things were so bad that we can visit and catch up here.. Eventhough I do chat with a lot of you on social media.. there is nothing like kicking on here..
I think Damie should start his.. "Why didn't yall tell me about..." on here.. It would be a great thread.

I don't know if you guys notice or not, but I have franchise jokes. Some of them are jokes that I only do with certain people, some are jokes that I only do certain places. The Digital Oppressors joke is only for the other venue (in part because the people who participate and get the joke are at that other venue)
I doubt it would work here. Hell there ain't enough people on OO on a regular basis to even spread a rumor. |

I think the momentum is rising... I can feel it... It's good to see. I can remember certain personalities that I've seen recently. I would like to see two personalities return: I think her name was Discerning Truth and the other was an Alpha, he had a Winnie the Pooh as his avatar back during OO. They ALWAYS had something positive or truthful to say, no matter the topic. It was plenty more personalities that I enjoyed too, but those two stood out.... |
