Ok, at work today Me and this girl and this other dude were talking. I was the only black dude amongst the three of us. She was telling us "Stuff" just chit chatting, water cooler type stuff. Her going to her boyfriends son house, her diabetes and can't drink....just talk right? So she told us the last time she went to her boyfriends area. "...OMG, and they were fixin on the roads and the Mexicans were every where" <---her words. "I mean, these big cement trucks and The Mexicans were in the road for miles" <----again her words.
Ok How come I got the feeling that if it were black people, she would of said the "blacks" or if in more comfortable company ninjas....?
Why did I all of a sudden start to feel awkward?
Is it me or am I thinking too much on this cause I want to believe that's a sideline racist comment?

Hmmm 'ole girls comments seem real stereotypish...she may be an undacova. That moment would have been the time to ask "Why didn't you just say alot of people in the road. Why point out they were Mexican?"
I don't think if you asked her it would have started too much confrontation but it would have made her aware that you got some mixed feelings about her.

@level: I don't think you are over thinking it.
Sidenote: I hate that so many folks speak badly of Mexicans. They are some of the hardest working people as far as I see.

Exactly Diva! That's why I believe I was a little offended. I couldn't help but to wonder what does she think about "Blacks" or any other nationality who is not white.

Yeah she was dead wrong. You don't identify people by their race/nationality alone. Not in 2011.

Did anybody take Philosophy in college? If there are any attorney's or phil majors, you'll realize that these type of subjects, like almost every subject matter, has a two-sided argument. Not a right or wrong argument, just two ways of approaching the argument....
As a moral realist, as it relates to this woman, the idea that she's wrong for making these statements, even if the statment if fundamentally true, factual, immoral or unethical, is irrelative. It's completely objective....
On the other hand, as a moral anti-realist, her claims or statements are ethical considerations of good and bad and are social and individual constructs based on social norms....
This type of thinking keeps me middle of the road. It also helps me keep from calling people dumb white trash or mayo sandwich eatin' motherfuckers, TPT's et al.....
It keeps me respectful. I like that.
