Yeah, I know we've been lighthearted today, but I've been reading about this lately, and wanted to share.
The voters of Mississippi will vote on a proposed Constitutional Amendment Tuesday which seeks to define "personhood," effectively outlawing abortion. The proposed amendment (in its entirety) is as follows:
Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Mississippi: SECTION 1. Article III of the constitution of the state of Mississippi is hereby amended BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION TO READ: Section 33. Person defined. As used in this Article III of the state constitution, "The term 'person' or 'persons' shall include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional equivalent thereof." This initiative shall not require any additional revenue for implementation.
So basically, not only would it outlaw abortion in ANY case (no exceptions for rape or incest), but also forms of birth control that work by preventing a fertilized fetus to implant (ie. IUD, the morning after pill).
There's also been some debate about whether this would preclude doctors from treating a mother with life-threatening illness/injuries if its expected that the treatment would cause the death of the fetus.
Thoughts??

This is very scary to think this has the possibility of being enacted into law.

ok let me understand this. They are voting on to use the term "Person"/"Persons" which will inevitably be used to say "you are with child" because you egg is fertile and because the law says you are? And it doesn't matter how your egg is fertile, if you were to terminate then you will go to jail for murder type stuff?
Ok but wouldn't that put OB-GYN's and their practice at risk? Let alone other clinics and hospitals? What about the labs or other offices that use artificial insemination but, the couple decide on one baby instead of the four they are pregnant with so the Doctor remove's the remaining eggs? Who's at fault and who's going to jail?
Oh gosh I'm thinking too much.
