hmmm, off the top of my head...
1. the "getting-to-know-you" slash just-hanging-out/dating stage 2. the courting stage 3. the exclusive stage 4. the making-moves-towards-a-future-together/engagement stage 5. the we've-jumped-the-broom stage 6.the we-have-kids-now-and-you-need-to-help-out-more-often stage 7. the resisting-the-7-year-itch stage 8. the mid-life-crisis stage 9. the we're old-as-dirt-and-people-look-at-us-as-if-we're-all-wise-and-ish-because-we've-been-married-for-so-long-but-only-because-we-both-know-it's-cheaper-to-keep-her stage

Once kept, it's always cheaper to keep her (at least in TX it is).

I'm familiar with various permutations of:
1. kickin it 2. vibeing/hollering 3. talking 4. dating 5. labeling/cuffing 6. Engagement
Never really got past those. Exclusivity, for me, normally comes in around stage 4. Earlier if there's physical intimacy involved.
The reason I started this thread: I'm noticing that as I get older I desire less and less to conform to what society expects a relationship should "look like" at a given stage. My perspective is moreso that so long as our situation is mutual and respectful and explicit (there is to be no implied understanding, but an honest-to-God social contract) and it makes sense to the parties involved, then that should be good enough. At the risk of sounding cliche, I don't really care about labels and exclusivity and such and I am most certainly not on a time schedule with these things.
Has anyone else noticed something similar?

oh, I heard back from webster 'nem "telesmanging" is a coinage rather than a word in language. My favorite part: "though onolympus.proboards.com/ has been cited in literary works before, it does not rise to the usage required for a new entry in this reference." Someone has cited OOA!!!

Too often, it seems the stages are: 1. Meet 2. Have sex 3. Attempt to get to know each other 4. Decide you don't like each other 5. Spend the next few months on FB/Twitter making passive aggressive mentions of that person.

I want to agree with this, I understand where you are coming from but I still get caught up in labels=exclusiveness=truthfulness, which is still a bad assumption. Maybe I'll get to this point where I can have a relationship and we define our own terms versus allowing the labels to define us.
