So I'm on the phone with my line sister and we're fussing about the latest greatest bs in the name of sorority life. We're discussing the collegiate chapters who were suspended in our area and the allegations that led to these suspensions.
Let me say, I've never been one who had the popular opinion. I've often said things that offend the majority. I'm ok with that.
I think that more and more, we're getting people to report "hazing" based on their deciding "I don't want to play with you anymore." I think our organizations need to hold these people accountable as well. If you didn't report the VERY FIRST incident of hazing but now you're reporting it 6 months down the line, you're culpable and you too have gone against the anti-hazing statement.
I know that many people felt some kinda way about the young AKA pledgee who drowned. But let me say, (not to lighten what happened to her) if I step in a puddle I stop. There's no way in hell, short of dragging me, that you'd get me blindfolded into water. Hell...if I step in a puddle in flip flops I change my plans for the day to include a new route and new footwear.
Not to say these whistle blowers are crying wolf but we need to do more investigating before we decide to make sweeping judgments.
