The book “Is Marriage For White People?” talks about some things that some of us black women are a part of. My friend calls it the the N.I.P. (Nikka Improvement Program).Below is an excerpt from the book. What are your thoughts... "“Part of the answer lies in the gender imbalance within the black community — where two African American women graduate from college for every one African American male. Despite this imbalance, there is still enormous social pressure on black women to only marry black men — to “sustain” the race and build strong black families. And this means marrying black men even if they are less educated or earn less money. In short, no matter the personal cost, black woman are encourage to marry “down” before they marry “out,” Banks said"www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/09/03/is-marriage-for-white-people/healthland.time.com/2011/08/31/is-marriage-for-white-people/

I know of several young ladies who are well educated from some of our most prestigious schools who married men less educated. I don't know if it were from pressure to marry black as it were to not feel pressure to always be smart. One young lady said to me, that she could laugh; she didn't have to be smart; she didn't have to be able to solve problems. She just wanted to have fun. Smart girls are attracted to the wild side and sometimes unfortunately it comes in the uneducated, down on his luck, black guy. They soon regret their decisions. It usually comes after two or three babies and then the trap is set and she feels like she cannot leave.
