Ok, folks. The weather here on the east coast has been wilding out lately and we all know we need to prepare for Hurricane Irene by copping our toilet paper, candles, kerosene, etc. When all that is outta the way, what sort of non-essential (yet, very important in your opinion) items would you stockpile?
weed stash? incense? hair grease? speak on it, please.

Me? I need to have a steady supply of cheez-its, reading material, fresh batteries for my vib Gameboy, clean drawz (despite the fact that I don't wear clothes indoors) and red wine (as it requires neither ice nor refrigeration).

She said weed stash!!!! LMBO!!! I'd definitely need the cheez its, water, plenty of batteries for my flashlight, camera (i'd have a new fb album called The Blackout or something), and extra (fully charged) cell phone and laptop batteries. Some kinda of fruit, lots and lots of notebook paper. A stockpile of books, and plenty of writing utensils.

So far I have: 1 huge bottle of Moscato wine 2 packs of braiding hair YES, I will be productive and install my tree braids so I'm looking right for school next week ;D While feeling nice. I may go back out and get some red communion wine too a la Lja's non-refridgeration required point. Hmmm...I'm craving some Lindt's white chocolate, the kind with the melted chocolate inside, BUT I am not trying to gain 10lb due to Ms. Irene. She can kiss my running working out azz. I have reading material,,,leisure and school, need to find my booklight though. No extra batteries for my BB Torch or my netbook = #FAIL

Dead @ Alc and Leja's original need for batteries.
Definitely gotta have a charged cell phone. When the power goes out you can still surf the net on the phone... if it's charged.
Gotta have some sort of alcoholic beverage.
Diva good idea on finding the book light. *Goes to do that now*

Worst-case scenario for the cell phone issue: Turn on your aux power in your car (unless your car charges while the car is off) and charge it if you have a car charger. This is best if you have a garage, due to the storm. But even if your power is out after the storm passes, this is an idea.

Good idea! I do have a garage so I'll have to keep this in mind. The rain is really starting to come down now. But I don't think it'll get too bad. *famous last words*

I live in new orleans and yall Hurricane rookies need some schooling...
In regards to the phone issue, they have battery operated chargers that you can get from any walgrees, rite aid, cvs, etc. it doesn't pull into a wall...it's portable and can be taken anywhere. All it takes is 2 AA batteries and you are good to go. (they have extensions for every phone type...make sure you have all phones that will be using it with you when u purchase because you and hook it up to make sure it fits. most with smartphones wont have this worry seeing as how we all have the same mini usb thingie.)
SOME of those same stores sell battery operated electrical plugs. These require stronger more durable batteries so make sure you have some money on you cause batteries will be the bulk of your purchase. You can use these things for low powered lights, chargers, can openers, and electrical eyes (bka Hot Plates...but they have more realistic ones nowadays. Mine is gust like the front eyes on my real stove.)
If you can acquire these things the possibilities are pretty good that you will live a pretty normal life during your power outages.
Have plenty of water...sex...and everyone will be happy. This is my promise! lol

welp...I still ain't got no electricity. But, everything's everything w/me and my fam. Was fairly productive during the storm, cooked some delicious nutritious meals. Didn't go on a disaster binge (where you eat like a hostage because you're holed up in the house). I DID spend quite a bit of money, though (flashlights, ice, paper plates & ish). I think most of my groceries survived, so I shouldn't have to throw out too much ish whenever the power comes back.

And folks wonder why there are so many babies born 10 months after a hurricane... No they don't, lol. Everybody knows the deal with all the summer births in the southeast and in the Caribbean. Up north, all the babies are born 10 months after blizzards (peep all the Virgos in the erria).
