For a man to hit a woman? Is there any situation in which you would be ok with a guy physically checking a female.
Here's the back story. I went the other night to the boardwalk with my cousin and her friend who we'll call Jimmy. We're talking, laughing, joking n everything else....everyone is enjoying themselves it appears.
Fat-forward a lil bit: In the midst of my conversation with someone I see Jimmy engaged in an argument with some chick I didn't know (Evidently they had history and she didn't appreciate him being there with my cousin). Now I don't know Jimmy like that, so I'm minding my business. I watch as the argument escalates and she starts "talking with her hands" and putting her hands in his face. Few minutes later she just punches Jimmy out of now where. I'm talking a legitimate cock'd back, closed fist right hook with some power behind it. No sooner, he reacted with a quick jab and she goes to sleep on the floor. **At this point I'm actually laughing because the way her head and hair jerked backwards was something straight out a movie...you would've laughed too**
After getting myself together I ended up having to grab Jimmy and get the hell outta there because dudes were coming to this girls defense and I wasn't about to scrap for some guy I didn't even know.
I'm pretty sure Jimmy will soon face an assault charge, but should he? I heard some interesting thoughts on this n just wanted to see what you guys think.

LMMFAO! Now this situation really is not funny BUT I could not help but laugh at this "Few minute later she just punches Jimmy out of now where. I'm talking a legitimate cock'd back, closed fist right hook with some power behind it. No sooner, he reacted with a quick jab and she goes to sleep on the floor"
*Gains Composure* No I don't think it is ever OK. Shake her, muff her in the face, maybe even spit on her but don't ever Jab or punch her lol.

Sooo, I believe that men and women need to keep their hands to themselves. In this case, kinda sounds like this chick may have 'deserved' it, being that she hit first. However, a gentleman (the type of man with whom I prefer to keep company) would have walked away or at least not punched her.
I think that any person who hits another person should be prepared to be hit back. *shrugs*
Regarding Rare's comment, I dunno. I really HATE when men say, "I won't hit a woman, but I will shake the hell outta her." WOMP WOMP...not feeling that mentality at all.
In my mind, you still put your hands on me in anger.
And spitting on a person...REALLY? That;s some reality TV b.s. SMH
P.S.-I have slapped a man twice in my life. Neither were boyfriends, both deserved it, and both were before age 15. One led to a straight up brawl...

I was really joking but I know some people will say they won't hit a woman but will muff them or shake them. Spitting on them that is just nasty as heck but he some folks will do anything to "get someone up off them".
I hit my ex (in the face) one time and it took everything in him not to hit me back. After that I have't hit anyone else I was real real scared of the look he gave me.
I agree if you put your hands on someone you should be prepared for a similar reaction although, that person may not stoop to your level but that's hard when human nature is to defend and protect...

I agree with Diva in that people should keep their hands to themselves. I don't think men should hit women, but I also don't think women should hit men either. I think way to many females push their luck because they're expecting the guy to sit back and take it. Not that I would actually hit someone one, but if I did I would expect to get one good punch in. If I hit him again, I would expect him to hit me back. Or if I was kickin his sister, girlfriend or mama's ass I would expect him to put his hands on me some kinda way. Again, all hypothetical cause I'm a lover not a fighter. *MJ voice* hee hee!
So yeah I think it's acceptable depending on the situation, but I think a guy should do his best to avoid it. Push her away, walk away and remove himself from the situation. And let's not forget women do beat up on men. Folks just don't report it because they're embarrased. Back in the day this women I worked with got deported back to Guyana cause she beat her boyfriend on the regular.

I can imagine it would be hard as hell to keep your composure and remove yourself from the situation when you just got hit like man. Not defending him or nothing but Jimmy's impulse and reaction was so quick, there's no way he had time to think. I never believed in hitting a female but that stance has been soften because far too many times I see females take advantage of the "men shouldn't hit a woman" stigma. It's only thing to talk with you hands and put you hands in his face, but what reaction did she really expect when she decided to do her best Mike Tyson impersonation?
Situations like this is the reason I used keep a couple of unsavory females from the hood around me...

"but Your Honor, she hit me first" is a perfectly acceptable legal defense. Would I be able to look at you the same after you cold-cocked a sister? Nah, I don't think so.

Given the circumstances, chick was wrong. And technically would that be self defense. All that aside, I'm not an advocate for men hitting women, but I can admit that many women put themselves in that position. I don't think women should hit men (myself excluded, kidding) but if you must then I say know your opponent.

To answer the question. Yes I guess it is EVER a time. Was this one of those times? Me, personally speaking....nahhh. I know he reacted of pure reaction. A good push down on your behind what of sufficed for me, Or a quick take down to restrain her. I don't think I can bring myself to straight clocking a chic.

I never say never, so I'm sure there are rare times when hitting a woman is not only OK, but the best thing to do in the given situation. In this situation, I think he could have walked away before either of them got to the point of violence. When she started putting her hands in his face is the point where he should have bounced. I don't even have these types of arguments and confrontations with females for that very reason...I've never been hit to the point that it actually hurt, and I don't want to be in a situation where I have to control my basic instincts to fight back.

Yep it is. Chris Rock said it best, "The worst thing in the world is a woman who knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that you won't hit her." I absolutely don't believe a man should strike the first blow but if she's big dog enough to put her hands on a dude, she should expect some "eye for an eye" action in return. If more women believed they'd get as well as the gave, I believe less women would walk around putting their hands on men recklessly. Why do you expect him to respond maturely if you can't? Chivalry is not a crutch that women should use to take advantage of a situation.
