Between FB/Twitter and now Google+ I speak to OOAers everyday everywhere except for OOA.....
Do you think our other avenues of communication are killing the site??
Does OOA have a place in a social media world???
What can this site provide that the others can't??

Between FB/Twitter and now Google+ I speak to OOAers everyday everywhere except for OOA.....
Sad, but true.
Do you think our other avenues of communication are killing the site??
In a manner of speaking, yes. Knowing that we can get to one another faster (and receive faster replies) is more appealing than logging on, posting, and waiting.
Does OOA have a place in a social media world???
In my opinion, yes. Call me a romantic or an idealist or whatever else you want to call me, but I see OOA as that handwritten letter. In a world besieged by emails, texts, and tweets a handwritten letter would mean a heck of a lot more because someone took the time out to make the effort.
What can this site provide that the others can't??
Well, it obviously provided the community for many of you to become up close and personal. For some it provides a temporary escape/break from a grueling work day. And for more than a few it has become a place to bounce ideas and/or provide market study for those upcoming work presentations.
Face it. You people have lived, learned, and loved a lot about each other through this site (well, OO). It's almost like that idyllic childhood home. You don't go back much, but when you do it feels good to be there.

[rant] eff a google+ [/rant]
we don't have to not communicate on the other outlets. we just have to be willing to continue to share here as well. There are a few who do their part to keep the heart ticking, but eventually you get tired of trying. Sometimes it's like what's the point.
When I first got here, OOA was thriving community. Nearly every section had something going on. New threads popped like popcorn. Now we're relegated to relive the memories by reading through old threads. I mean, really, how many times can I re-read general thoughts?

there are few with whom I actually communicate on Facebook and there are a few who keeps me in stitches on twitter. Other than that, I'm in here attempting to preserve what once was.

But yes. Because so many people talk off the board there's not as much reason to come to OOA. And if OOA is dead and all we're doing is bumping threads from 2008 we're not keeping folks interested or giving them any reason to contribute to the discussion. I also think we're lacking in new members. For better or for worse SH gets new members regularly. But we have a variety of topics that we discuss which is more valuable IMO. But I think Skynet (FB) killed the message board in general. Many sites are suffering the same fate. But folks will always come back. It's home and for privacy people can interact with folks here rather than letting them in completely as a FB friend.

it's true. we need to do better. i know it seems like every subject in the world has been covered, but look at it like this. Some of you guys are 3, 4, 5, and even 6 years into this think called OO(A). You've grown older and (hopefully) wiser, and a lot of your opinions and experiences have changed things. There's nothing wrong with bring back older topics with a new point of view. It shows your growth and maturity or lack there of.
