- When you do go out to eat, ask for water with lemon to drink. At most places its free, and you'd be surprised by how much you save a month by not paying the extra $2 for a soda. - Opt for automatic bill pay whenever possible. This may not work for everyone, but at least for me, I can budget myself better because I know that on the 4th of the month, Progressive is going to subtract that cash from my account. If I were paying it myself though, I might not be as on point about not spending money I don't need to spend. - Get a simple phone and plan. Honestly, my Blackberry was cool, but does it really make financial sense to pay an extra 30 bucks a month for internet on my cell when I'm already paying COX for internet in my house, and internet at my job is provided for free? You don't have to be that connected. But I do have unlimited text, just because I text more than I talk to people.

I will have to try the automatic bill pay thing too. Yeah I get what you are saying about the INET on your phone it makes you too accessible guess I could look into downgrading because I have unlimyed INET and work and home I'm usually at one guess I don't need it on my phone too and I HATE this Sprint Epic phone I want to take it back anyways...

You just have to make sure that the money is available for the transactions. I know people that have gone into the negative because of frequent mis-calculations.

LOL. Funny thing is my friend just said she overdrew her account for $1.00 and got hit with a $36 fee that they would not reverse. She is trying to budget and do better but I'm like dang you need an intervention.

Travel on a budget. Use points and frequent flyer reward programs. I just earned 5,000 Hilton Honors points by completing online surveys.

Debt is a part of life.
The sooner you realize that, the less time and money you can waste trying to eliminate it. The debt really isn’t the problem: the worry about debt is. As soon as you become ambivalent to your debt, the better quality of life you can live.
Besides, being debt-free is not going to make you rich. Many rich people are in debt and they even manage to get richer while being in debt. The fantasies about wealth were written decades ago. You NEED debt in order to get rich!

It seems from what you posted that you signed up for the "sale" that is the regular price...

@ Kyng- no I signed up for less than regular price. They waived their normal "enrollment fee" and signed up an additional card member for no cost. Plus when I called them back they changed the promo so I get a $100 travel voucher (im sure it has some restrictions and catches but even still). Plus I already know that when booking hotels & rental cars AAA will give you a discount depending on the hotel. So my membership has already paid for itself. Not sure how good they are for their tow and rental services but for hotel and car discounts it's a plus! Good deal to me may not be to anyone else...ijs.

Yep but the AAA discount far exceeds the state per diem or the state non per diem rate. Plus some out of state properties don't offer other state employee discounts but AAA is international...even in Dubai lol. I've checked it thru and thru at a few properties.

AAA also exceeds the fedgov rate. I use it every single time I book a hotel stay. They came out to my job to replace my battery on an hour's notice. I also get discounts at my fave clothing stores. It's a win, generally.

If you have AAA when you go shopping ask the retailer if they give a discount. It has more benefits than I really knew.
