We’ve come a long way baby! From ‘Hearts of Dixie’ to Will Smith, Angela Bassett, Denzel Washington, Spike Lee and Halle Berry, Black actors, directors, producers and innovators in film have come a long way and Hollywood will never be the same.
The depiction of and participation by African-American people in entertainment has left a considerable imprint on American culture. Blacks have made significant contributions in the arts, and movies are no exception. From Mammy to Malcolm and Stepin Fetchit to Shaft, African-American images in film and the roles for actors and depictions of black life have changed significantly over the past century. Their contributions are legendary and their legacy lives on and continues to shine.
This is Black History Month. This is the month of the Oscars. What better time to recognize and celebrate African-Americans in film?!
Please join the ladies of Omega Omicron E-Sorority, Inc., from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (EST) on Friday, February 25, 2011 for “Shine Onyx Shine! A Tribute to Our Jewels of Cinema.”
This event is open to the e-public. All are welcome and encouraged to e-attend.
