My son's god-mother just sent me a text telling me that this 3rd Sunday will be Greek Sunday at church.
So I asked if we had to wear toga's or pari. lol
She said pari.
I really don't know about this....any thoughts

We have that at my church, especially since we have such a huge following of college kids, but everyone who is greek does it too. Not a big deal, really. It's just clothing, it does not take away from the main purpose of being there.

Its common in the large churches in NYC. I know a lot of orgs ask for a big turn out so the members w. the largest show can sign the hymn for the congregation (which doesn't make sense to me but I guess its all above board).

Their are some congregations here that also do the "Greek" Day...I attended one. I was visiting a church, not realizing it was Greek day, and they did a presentation to the Youth Groups after service.

There's College Sunday at a church in Nashville. Folks either wear something related to their org (Greek and non -Greek) or school and you could RSVP to have reserved seating for your group. It was a lot of fun.

I really don't know about this....any thoughts I know a church that do this here in Houston.. I think they even sponsor a step show. I think its moreso of a tactic to try to get younger people in church.. so I really see no harm in it... sometimes you have to communicate in ways less conventional in order to reach more people. A couple months back we were trying to communicate this to my mom, she goes to one of those old fashion churchs, no pants.. church starts at 10 and dont be over until 2, hymns put you straight to sleep! LOL Its about 30 members (if that many) at her church and she is always talking about they are trying to figure out ways to reach out to younger people but they dont want to change anything...

I don't have a problem with it, it just seems exclusionary. We have college days where you can wear your school's para or a school you support (in case you didn't go to college). In the greek world, you're either wearing your org's ish or nothing. And then of course some folks would roll up in some non D9 stuff and I'd be rolling my eyes but that's another topic.
Some churches have greek letter christian clubs by the way.

Hmmm I don't think I would have a problem with it per se but if folks get up and start line dancing down the middle of the pews and roll calling instead of shouting I will have to give them the one church finger and leave. LOL

LOL icried! This does not happen, at least where I've been. Like I said, it's just clothing showing which org you with, but the main purpose of being there is never overshadowed by it.

This is great when it's done with good intentions. My Grand Lodge/Grand Chapter was invited to an 100 Men In Black celebration at a church here for St. John's day....I thought it was a good business plan because us being there was a definitely way to get more money in the church. They had at least 4 offerings along with a $50 march. #played

My mother is a Delta, her good friend is an AKA, and their pastor is an Alpha. Their church isn't exactly full of college-educated people, but the pastor is often calling somebody out (playfully) from the pulpit about their organizational affiliation.
Because of the demographics of the church, I always felt it was a little exclusionary. But I guess nobody cares.
They don't do a college Sunday or anything like that. But I think it's a good idea if implemented properly.

I love College Sunday. We only had one bad experience...it still amazes me that they acted so stupid and silly in church over some friggin seats. But the fact that people from all over come is great. So many colleges, so many orgs, so many people, so many different shirts and colors...it was great.
