I think someone needs to be looking at the family and what's going on at home and not placing all the blame on the teacher. In the 2nd grade there is no way I would have known about oral sex if I hadn't seen it at home.

^^ I was actually thinking about this. Did I know what "oral sex" was in 2nd grade? Definitely not. But what if the children didn't view it as sexual, but explorative. Is it farfetched than an 8 year-old could come up with that act without having been abused/exposed to porn? Perhaps not. Especially not when you incorporate that at that age (according to Erikson, Jung and Freud), children (esp. boys) have already discovered their own sex organs, look for ways to increase pleasure, and look for ways to avoid reprimand (i.e. why they would hide in a closet). Then also, if it were a boy getting "performed on" that's a little more normative, given the food-reminiscent phallic shape. Don't get me wrong. I think it's something that needs to be addressed and I understand the need to blame some adult. But I wouldn't be overly surprised if there is no evidence of foul play at all.

Would you think they were going thru a phase or would you think it was more? I am torn I don't have kids but if my child is caught or I get a notice from school about this I'm sorry the liberal me is coming out and she is not nice to play with.

Like I had said, "don't get me wrong. I think it's something that needs to be addressed."
I don't feel the need to personalize the situation because I don't have children and I'm no longer a teacher. I can totally see why a parent might not be able to discuss it in such a philosophical, disengaged way.

At 28 my Mom is still surprised at how much stuff I knew that she thought I was 100% I was unaware of. Parents think kids know nothing until they get a call like this, LOL. I don't think it's a phase though...I just think they (or just one of them) saw something somewhere and decided to imitate it. They may not have know that it was oral sex and all of that. Either way I still think someone needs to be side eyeing the parents.

ITA! something went wrong in the house, either through personal exposure or what they've been allowed to see in the media.
