It's apparent that I'm not greek but I know quite a few that are. So, today I ran across someone who fit the profile of a "poser" and what is crazy is, this I've never met this dude irl and we're just FB friends. Anywho, this fool, Iceman is his middle name, called me to chat and I mentioned that pink was my favorite color, so he asked if I was an AKA and I said no. Naturally I asked, are you greek? Iceman responds "Black and Gold are my favorite colors" so I say cool, you're an Alpha. He says not yet, he's on line and quickly changes the subject (this is where my bullsh!t meter starts going off). So a month ago, during my Ustream show I shouted out to all of the greeks that were in the room and of course each person repped their orgs. Iceman publicly reps A Phi A with other Alphas in the room (mental note made). One of the Alphas hits me up PM and asks for more info on Iceman because he didn't respond to the challenges given... umm, ok!
Fast forward to today, I wrote on his wall "Hey Iceman, Happy Founders day to the illustrious men of Alpha Phi Alpha". Iceman's response was "I'm not sweetie. I am a member of an org. Gotta keep silent for now." WTF does that mean!? I respond "Oh wow, I was under a different impression from our conversations and the impromptu greek rep on Ustream. Maybe I misread what you wrote but I remember you repping this org during my show, cuz I thought you crossed from when we initially spoke. Did I miss something or are you still on line?" ....then he deletes the entire wall posting and puts this in my inbox.
"Do to the org that im in. I cant tell u too much but. I will say this. I rip for my big cuzz who has passed away. We were so close and that was like my brother and my aunt asked me and one of his line bruhs asked me to rep and i was honered to do soo"
My response : "I'm so confused. Sorry to hear about the loss of your cousin, I know how it can be to lose someone who was as close as a sibling. However, I specifically remember you telling me that you were on line for Alpha Phi Alpha because you asking me if I were part of Alpha Kappa Alpha and I said no. Then on my show, I shouted out to all the greeks in the room, and you said Black & Gold, A Phi A. So because you repped it publicly, I thought that you had crossed.
Now, I'm not greek but I know plenty of people who are. And one thing that I do know is that no authentic member or any D9 organization will ask a non-member to rep their organization for them or a fallen member. Im not saying dont rep your cousin, but please be careful of who you tell this too.
I'm not trying to put you on blast, but I will be up front in letting you know that I'm confused by what you are telling me. Also, if you are part of another org that you cannot disclose, I wouldn't even disclose being a part of an org that I cannot disclose. It raises too many questions. I dont want the wrong person to come at you sideways over a misundestanding. Hope I didnt offend, but I did want to express my lack of understanding of this issue."
Iceman's reply... "I'm in transition to be a Mason"
What the heezy!? I'm not in the business of challenging folks of orgs I dont belong to but this is the 3rd poser I've encountered, coincidentally all claimed to be Alpha men. So what suggestions do you have for a non-greek person in this situation that doesn't require feeding them to the wolves?
