Hi my name is Ashlee, I have been reading this board for the past couple months looking for information on how to make my interest known about me wanting to join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. I thought if maybe I came right out and just asked, maybe I could get some help. Just alittle background on me, I am 19, I am a sophomore at hbcu. I have been researching all of the Divine 9 sororites trying to figure out which one I thought would be a good fit for me. After reading some really good literature about the org and going to a couple events, I really became interested in Delta Sigma Theta. I like their national intiatives as well as the ones campus wide. I am active on campus and I am active in the community as well but even with the all that I do on campus and off. I can seem to be able to gain exposure to the members on campus. When attending the events I tried to stay after to talk to them but it's always tons of people there waiting to talking to them as well. I am just confused on how to approach one of them to be able to request alittle of their time so that they can get a feel of me, as well as give me a chance to see what they are like as well. Should I just walked up to one of them and say hey I am interested in your organization and I would like a oppurtunity to learn more about your organization or I had an idea to suggest a partner intiative with their chapter and my non greek organization, I am apart of; not only to do something good for the community but to also get a chance to mingle with them alittle bit more. I dont know what to do neccesarily, I dont have anyone greek in my family so I am just lost about the approach aspect. I would really apperciate any honest feedback.

Welcome LMFM- There is a little too much background information in your post. Based on the silliness of people these days, since you planned on co-sponsoring an event anyway, go with that. You said you've never really interacted with them. This would give you the opportunity to do just that AND see if you are stll interested afterward. Good luck

Can you edit your name out sweetie. Also, just to be nice and give you a heads up; if you are active on campus like you say you are, there is a good chance they already know your name and a couple other things about you.

LMFM
Regardless of how it all goes down just remember this, alot of people who should get selected aren't, alot of people who shouldn't be selected are. Chance sometimes plays a role. I say all this to say, Greek life is not the end all be all to life - so if you don't get selected it doesn't mean that something wrong with you, and if you do get selected it doesn't mean that there isn't something wrong with you. Just stay at it.
I personally would introduce myself and make it a point to engage them at their functions. They've been through the song and dance before too... they'll know you're interested.
Either way best of luck

Wow, you think we would say something mean? LOL Anyway, attend their community service projects also, and while you are attending introduce yourself. I think some people over-think the process, if its meant for you it will happen. Good luck and keep doing positve things in the community.

Do you have a photo that I could see? I could help you out with your "look". I know many Deltas and having the correct look will help you to become a member faster than a bunch of community service. Visual appearance is all apart of the package that Deltas want to portray. Just inbox me a quick link to a photo and I can offer you suggestions and corrections.

'91 that's why I suggested interacting with them first. She may interact with them and decide "this isn't really for me." Once you get to know people, you kinda figure out when to say what AND most importantly how to say it.

Gotcha. Just don't come hollering at me just because you want to be a Delta. Doing it an an event just screams that but I've been off the yard for quite a while.I personally would rather meet you in another context but could just be me.
