...what should happen?
I'm all for the President taking a stand, de coupling the tax cuts into those below and threshhold and above a threshhold and then forcing a vote.
I would even be able to stomach the cuttoff being moved up to $400-500k instead of $250k.
Either way, the Democrats should either get their cuts for the middle class and allow the upper income tax cuts to expire and revert back to the Clinton era rates or they should let them all expire.
At some point, you've got to just say, here's the line....

At some point, you've got to just say, here's the line.... On huffpost they're saying they're already pretty much conceding that they're going to have to accept a temporary extension for both. Why this is I don't know. If it's a lame duck session and many of you all aren't coming back, you can make votes without worrying about backlash... you're already going home.
I guess what they're running into mostly is time - it takes time to draw up the new bill and get it through committee and both houses and they don't have time to do it without significant Republican participation.
I think it stinks personally. If they're going to extend them they need to extend them 1 year max. The rich do NOT need tax cuts and they are NOT going to create jobs.

The bill has already been written. The problem would be getting Republican support which they are not going to get anyway.
At this point, I agree with you...they should push through the bill with the lame duck congressmen they have now.

When people tell Obama that he has a messaging problem - this is what I regard as that problem. I suspect there's a reason why they're conceding this battle... but we don't know it. What we see is the Republicans throwing a tantrum and the Democrats just letting them have their way.
What person likes to see parents coddle children throwing tantrums? It's an instant turn off and if he can't explain why he is taking this step, if he can't get out in front of these narratives he should stop complaining about not getting credit for stuff he's done. He's not getting credit because everyone BUT him is telling the story.

True. This "Masters of the Universe" shit has gotten old. It's time out for the "We gotchu...trust us" mantra.
The Democrats in Arkansas didn't lift a finger to help the District 2 Democratic candidate win this year even though it remains the most liberal district in the state. She's a black woman with a fade and was named by many national pundits, one of the best qualified candidates in the country. Yet, her campaign was garbage and she was beaten by a guy who worked for Karl Rove, helped in the vote caging fiasco down in Florida, AND was a player in the situation where the federal judges were fired.
WTH? If y'all let Joyce Elliott lose for a reason, please share it with me because all I see is a bunch of academic pussies with no backbone or fire.

I saw that article earlier too. Huffpost reported that Democrats were going to punt on the tax debate until after the elections and that's what ended up happening, so I surmise that even though they're pushing back against the story right now, it's also what's going to happen.

Yeah, I think this was leaked to test reaction.

Yeah, I think this was leaked to test reaction. I wish I was as optimistic. I think this is just another sign of the failure to control messaging. The Republicans are definitiely more effective at breathing life into a narrative.

So what do you think happens in this lame duck session? Anything interesting?

True. Income tax cuts do not create jobs. Demand creates jobs. Corporations are sitting on a lot of cash. Currently, there is no reason for businesses to put that cash to work. If people don't have jobs, they cannot buy anything. Without buying, there wont be any jobs. Chicken egg...
Someone has to suck the siphon and typically, that somebody is the government.

I unfortunately believe the Dems are going to punk out. The Pubs are not pressed about a stalemate, we are. An alternate solution that I believe generates more revenue is removing the cap on SSA taxable earnings.

OK so House Democrats have officially rejected the Obama tax compromise and Clyburn is saying he doesn't know what this mean in terms of next steps. Will our boy be able to salvage the deal before all our taxes increase? ? <insert dramatic music here>

But if the tax breaks expire on everyone, who will be blamed? The 'pubs can say they tried to extend them and it's Obama's fault he couldn't get his party in line. The Dems can say that they couldn't get the deficit down without the additional revenue that the rich taxes would bring. All I know is EVERYBODY will be pissed if this doesn't get resolved.

I'm so sad about the Dems and their inability to be tough and stick together at the same time.

I'm still trying to decide how I feel about Bill Clinton's trying to save the day. My issue isn't with him per se. It's troublesome that he needed.
