warning stolen from stophazing:
Why won't ALL BGLO's buy a string of hotels on the East Coast, West Coast, and a good Central location, and have there national meetings in those locations. All orgs. with the exception of SGRho/KaPsi and AphiA were founded in the same central location. The NPHC could pool the money together to buy hotels and other money generating enterprises? Hotels make money all throughout the year. Imagine an NPHC hotel in D.C./Maryland/VA next year for 2011, the hundred year anniv. for Kappa and Omega at opposite ends of the year. Not only that, but there are professional sports, "inaugurations", etc. that could be generated throughout the year.... BUT it will probably never happen, so my whole post is just wasted finger muscles
I'm in on this. But it would never happen. smh

In theory, if the membership number boasted reflected actual financially active members, there would be enough money to purchase a few hotels or large lodging option. I agree with Glam, sounds nice but ain't happening (soon).

Greeks need to bring back pledging. That is all they need to be focusing on.

a few?
Most convention size hotels are going for $100MM+ in average markets. So, to buy ONE, you are looking at each D9 paying 11MM. I don't know that any D9 org can unass 11 mil and still be viable.

I've read this at least a dozen times and I can't seem to find the section that contains the good ideas.
Can somebody give me a clue?

First, our orgs need a check and balance system and maybe outside auditors so that people we elect can stop stealing money out the coffers.
NO BUENO.

I don't think people want to go back to the same place year after year. I know i wouldn't. For many, the family vacation is built around these conventions and I think the lack of variety in locale would turn many off from attending.

This would be a good idea (on paper) but I could see it as another potential outlet for power-seekers in our orgs to steal money. #nothankyou

For many, the family vacation is built around these conventions and I think the lack of variety in locale would turn many off from attending. but if it's a string of hotels wouldn't that chance the locale a bit? You don't have to choose the same place every time. Of course from the outside looking in, it seems location would be the SMALLEST issue to figure out when it comes to trying to put this together.

Didn't think that would be the biggest issue, just the one that hadn't been mentioned.
We currently rotate meetings between seven regions and a number of cities in each. Let's call it 30 options on destination (only a few cities have large enough convention capacity for us). People have already mentioned the finance challenge, we would definitely not have anywhere near that many.

It sounds like you'd then prefer more of the timeshare approach so that you could change cities. Could a particular hotel chain be selected? IDK, I'm not Greek so maybe there are future points to consider.
