Okay the fall television season is upon us and there are lots of new shows to see. Are you trying to decide which shows you should watch? Wanna save yourself from wasting an hour on a show you thought would be good but wasn't. I'll do the work for you!
I did pretty good with my predictions last year, let's see if I can do it again. Step right up for Sapphy's OOA Fall TV Guide. I'll tell you all the things you need to know about new fall series premieres... starting with my initial perception to my opinion after watching the pilot.
I'll post the shows as they come up, but feel free to make requests. ;D

well lets see im thinking that NBC is stepping up their game and im in a conflict.
The Event is their new series with Blair Underwood playing President of the USA. It was written by the writers of the show 24. The Dr who had the messed up leg in ER is also in the show...Its coming on Thursdays!!! HUGE CONFLICT OF INTEREST! what should I do?

I think you're talking about The Event... and I'm gonna go ahead and give an early prediction that it's gonna fail. From the commercials it seems like there is way too much going on. Keep it simple like NCIS. There's only one 24, trying to repeat is no bueno. But I'll watch and report after the first episode.

First Up, Boardwalk Empire on HBO...
Initial Prediction: Awesome! It's created by Martin Scorcese and stars Steve Buscemi (what more could you ask for?) as as a Nucky Thompson (based off the real life Nucky Johnson), political boss and racketeer who's hay day was at the dawn of Prohibition in crime-ridden Atlantic City.
Review/Final Prediction: BE is a keeper. They're still introducing all the characters and setting up the story lines, so it's early to give too much detail. But it looks like they're going to have the right mix of human interest stories of each character (especially Nucky's), as well as crime and drama. I didn't realize Marky Mark was a co-producer as well. Bottom line is HBO needed another crime drama; while this isn't the Sopranos, but it fits the bill and will be around for at least 3 seasons... might as well start watching now.

You are missimng out if you're not watching PP Sapph. Much better than Grey's even though it doens't get the same props.
I may officially drop L&O:CI this season as in addition to the loss of D'Onofrio last year now I understand Goldblum is gone too. That should free up an hour to try a new show.

Oh snap! I didn't realize D'Onofrio left... and Goldblum just joined. What's up with that? I like the show but don't watch it on it's regular night. I just catch it here and there. I see they have a new LA version starting to keep up with NCIS. LOL
I hear PP is good, but when I watch the backdoor pilot on Grey's I wasn't drawn into it. I only gave it two shows. Plus since Taye Diggs was on it I didn't expect it to last that long. Ha ha.

I see they have a new LA version starting to keep up with NCIS. LOL Unless they can clone LL, they can't touch NCIS:LA. D'onofrio and Erby were cut last year to reduce the budget. Not sure if that's the same thing that got Goldblum. SVU will have to be the last man standing.

Interesting. Yeah LL and Chris O'Donnell definitely give something for the ladies to enjoy. I like that show and need to watch it more often. If SVU is cuttin all those folks it wont last long.

Okay it's Monday... Next Up, The Event on NBC...
Initial Prediction: I was wrong about that save the cheerleader save the world show, which I thought sucked in the first episode but went on to be very popular. However, I'm going to give the same prediction for the Event... Fail. I think they're trying to do too much in one show. TV goers (for the most part) want simple plots they can easily understand.
Review/Final Prediction: M'eh. I liked this a gazillion times better than that other show (see above) for a pilot episode, but I don't see this show doing well. Not because it sucked, I was engaged and wanted to be drawn in (and I was for a second) but there were way to many storylines and flashbacks in multiple different time frames going on for one episode, especially the pilot. This show reminds me of the movie Vantage Point; you got all those varying points of view and build up and then it ended up being a lame movie. Now I won't say this show is lame yet... it's too soon to tell. I'll definitely give this show another two watches before I make my final decision.
However, these writers have to pull it together and give us some idea about what's going on. And while there at it give me one story all the way through. This episode was boat cruise with guy and girlfriend that goes missing all shown in story lines like 5hours earlier then 15 hours earlier and 3 days earlier all while doing the same thing with every other character/story line. It was entertaining I thought it was a bit much and hard to focus. I can't tell you what it's about, but it appears that it's part drama, action and sci-fi. I think the quicker the writers give a better understanding of what the event actually is the better. Otherwise it'll suffer the same fate as The Nine and Flash Foward. Stay tuned (for now).

And now for The Chase on NBC:
Initial Prediction: 'eh, not that interested... they already have this show on USA with another blond chick.
Review/Final Prediction: I do believe I was pleasantly surprised! So this show is about U.S. Marshals who hunt fugitives. It's based out of TX and the team is lead by a female marshal who has what appears to be a troubled past. They don't say what that is but my guess is that her father was a criminal or a con man of some sorts. Anyway, her insight and past experiences help her to get into theminds of the convicts and allow her to catch them. Gabby Solis' boy toy is the newbie marshal on this show and the group is diverse which is good for a broad audience. I'm not sure if I'll watch this show yet because I'm not sure what it will compete with. But the first episode was good. It had the right combo of action, drama and human interest.

Okay so let's move over to CBS, with Hawaii 5-0.
Initial Prediction: I'm gonna like it. CBS is realizing that they need to compete with CSI LA with some young folks action dramedy.
Review/Final Prediction: It's what I expected. There was action, a good set up of the plot and characters. Overall it was entertaining and I think this will do well. It's kind of Nash Bridges-esque in that it's just a cop show, with no fancy CSI-ness, but it's bright and sunny and tropical so it's not as dull as Law & Order. I predict it'll make it at one season. The catch for this will be to not conflict with LL or another popular show, even though that's what it's competing with.

Let's talk about Lone Star on CBS
Initial Prediction: Wha? Never heard of it... oh look it's Jon Voight.
Review/Final Prediction: Okay so I'm on the fence. I liked the pilot but I don't think this show will do well. The show is about an expert con man, who's been pulling scams with his father John since he was a young child. He's currently scamming investors out of millions on non-existent oil and gas futures, and he's infiltrating the family of a tough Houston oil man (played by Jon Voight). But now he wants to go legit much to the chagrin of his daddy. He wants love and a stable life so that he doesn't have to live on the run and remember all of his cons.
The problem with the show is that I don't see how it can develop into an actual show for multiple seasons. When I watched it it seemed more like a movie of the week. Then at the end I was inspired and think this has the potential to be a really interesting, dramatic show. But I don't know if the viewers (or me) are ready for it. My prediction is that it will be canceled after the first season.

Okay ladies, it's time for The Undercovers on NBC (just watched my DVR)
Initial Prediction: None really... no strong thoughts about if it will be good or not, but in general I don't expect it to do well because although Boris is a looker he's not enough draw to tie in the masses (remember Daybreak with Taye Diggs?)
Review/Final Prediction: FAIL. I'm sad to report that the fate of sexy Black men on fall 2010 is officially in the hands of Blair Underwood and The Event, and that ain't looking to good.
The pros of this show is that Boris is a fine as brotha. The girl who plays his wife is also attractive so there's eye candy for both sexes. However, there's no eye candy for the White folks and like it or not if a show's main characters are Black YT ain't watching it, and on a major network that's a problem. They should have added a cute White dude in there for good measure.
The biggest problem with the show is that a) it's an unnoficial piss poor remake of Alias created by the same guy who brought us Alias and b) it's a piss poor remake of Alias created by the same guy who brought us Alias... we already watched Alias people. In the words of Duncan McCleod of the Clan McCleod "there can be only one."
This is a remixed version of Alias (including the nerdy White dude who talked to much) coupled with a little Mr. & Ms. Smith. The husband and wife smiley, kissy kissy thing was somewhat annoying and sappy. Overall I was disappointed with this is a faux remake. No bueno. My prediction is it gets canceled and after only about 5-6 episodes. Sorry folks. Oh yeah and while they figure out what show to replace it with you can show re-runs of Alias?!

So I also watched Outlaw with Sexy Jimmy Smits on NBC. At least I think (I watched the rerun on USA so....)
Initial Prediction: None really... but hoped it would be good.
Review/Final Prediction: I liked it! I have to say. It reminds me of Shark with James Woods. It's about a judge who quits his job to become an attorney and help people that have been traditionally ignored by the legal system. I'll have to watch another episode or two to know if this is a keeper, but it had a good start. I think the success of this show will be determined by where it fits on the schedule and what it competes with.

Okay so clearly I've fallen off a bit... um, lemme see... Blue Bloods on CBS
Initial Prediction: I wanna like it and I want it to do well for Tom Selleck's case. Power to the people Magnum! Power to the people!
Review/Final Prediction: I liked it... I don't know how well it will do since it airs on a Friday and at first glance it's more of a family drama than a cop show, but we'll see. Also I'm not for complex cases but the situation in the pilot was a little too simple. Granted (noticed I didn't say "granite" OOers pay attention... ones made of stone and the other is a word in the English language used in the place of "given the fact" LOL) this was the first episode so things might get better.
Basically the plot is that Tom Sellect is the police commisioner and his sons are cops (one is a rookie who's about to be lured into an undercover investigation into dirty cops) and his daughter is the assistant DA. They work together as professionals yet it's a family affair. It's got Donnie Walburg in it too. This show is hard to categorize... it's not high tech like CSI but it's not dark and depressing like Law and Order SVU. It's somewhere in between and tied together by family. I'll have to give a final prediction after the second episode. But so far so good.

Okay so I figured out what the problem is with Lone Star. I'll go on record by saying that I like it and will support the show as long as its on. Its a good story line, good acting and has potential for some good drama. However, it won't last. Why? As I said in my earlier review it's sort of like a movie. The problem with the show is that it's like a soap opera without the same cliffhanger moments. It's like a running story and each story doesn't have it's own beginning, middle and end each week. Instead each episode is a dramatic build up piece of the puzzle. To me it's the thinking man's tv... it's hard to explain, it's just a different tempo and style than typical tv dramas. I was pleasantly suprised by the show. But to top it all off it got no promotion. I had no idea it was coming to tv I just happend to catch it. I expect it to disappear very soon.

Thus far my picks after seeing at least two episodes of each show... the definite winners are:
Boardwalk Empire Hawaii 5-0 Blue Bloods Outlaw (Needs to move to a new night to survive more than one season) The Chase
Definite Losers - TBC (To be Canceled and Soon)
I did watch a few minutes of *@#$ My Father Says and I have no real review other than it will be canceled. I like William Shatner and hoped the show would be good, but it's just not funny. The writing is lackluster and the acting by the son sucks. Capt. Kirk needs talented folks around him so that he can shine. Unfortunately this ain't it. Don't bother, this won't make it.
I saw one episode of Outsourced and had more laughs at my last cavity filled. I didn't find it funny. This show won't make it through it's first season.

I saw Outsourced last night and got an attitude. Why? I thought about all of the jobs my company have OUTSOURCED and put people HERE out of work <---Union Gal
I liked Blue Bloods; Outlaw; M'eh on The Chase. I've DVR'ed The Event & Boardwalk Empire for the past 3 weeks so I cant pass my opinion yet. I'm glad to see DEXTER; The Good Wife;Law & Order SVU; Fringe back on the scene. I saw an episode of Private Practice while on my cruise and felt myself getting sucked in...until I saw Taye Diggs. Then I remembered WHY I dont watch Private Practice.

LOL. Taye Diggs was the first reason i figured I would not like Private Practice. But people love it. I just fell off the whole Grey's bandwagon after Isiah Washington got fired, not so much in protest (although he did everything they asked and they fired him anyway), but I thought his character was too big to move past.
I'm on the fence about Law & Order Los Angeles. It's different than the others... not sure how. But it's not dark and serious like the others (are they filmed in black and white?). It's too cheery and bright.

Sapphy you and I are >>>>>>>>>>>HERE<<<<<<< <<<<<
LONE STAR: How can you write an entire season on scams? They gave all the secrets away on the 2nd episode. FAIL CHASE: Very good show. They will be able to chase bad guys for a long while.
THE EVENT: It has the feel of 4400 and a tiny bit of 24, Body Snatcher and Stepford Series. I love trying to out guess the writers, too much going on. MAY NOT MAKE IT.
LAW/ORDER: LA: It's a good thing they added the INTRO and the familiar music, otherwise it was in trouble.
OUTLAW: The Best. Smits is da man. His manner of attacking every case is exceptional.
