Alright, bump it, I'll say it. Alot of the rappers that didn't get no shine at the latest awards where by and large regional artist. Now I agree that they could just do a regular awards and honor some Dirty South artists...
...but if they really ran it that way there'd be even LESS Dirty South artists getting recognition than this show. Don't do it, D. Don't hate on the Dutty Souf

YES!!!.. I think who run it would have been more appropriate then Gangsta Boo come out as surprise and kill it and then she go into her verse of Ballers and then Pat come out and kill his verse and then he goes into Chicken Head and then La CHat comes out.. That would have been the hottest ish ever.. Ok, so I just envisioned this in my head and it was HOT!!!!!!! now i'm searching for my Three Six/Hynotized Minds playlist. Already bouncing! lol It would have been one of THE highlight performances...

yes i think boosie is one of the best down south rappers. i have had all his mixtapes and cds and he has some skills but alot of people that arent from the south havent heard alot from him which makes him very understated IMO. he really has a way with words
and chal im not even that big of a rap fan (dont get me wrong though cuz if a song stands out to me it stands out) but boosie is in my top 5

Don't hate on the Dutty Souf Not hating on the South... just pointing out that while you all are envisioning how it should have all gone down with Memphis artists... I know dudes from the Palmetto to the Pan Handle who would be making the same argument for J.T. Money and Poison Clan. If it seems obvious to you that 3-6 should have been on stage, it seems just as obvious to others that J.T. Money and Poison Clan should have been on there... that's the problem with regional appeal. Everyone thinks their guy is the guy... but they might be the only one that believes it.
And that's why I would tend to feature folks from the South, that had notoriety in the East and West. You may not like New York - but it's a media center. So is L.A. So if you're not getting buzz in your home town and another media center you are regional. It's the same for everybody (even people from the media centers - i.e. Charles Hamilton)

Ummmm...let's be real...that Oscar was questionable, at best. Re: Jermaine Dupri, whether you like him or not, he actually did deserve to be honored. He/SoSoDef was one of (if not the) first Southern hip-hop producer/label to achieve any sort of consistent national, mainstream success (which of course is going to be VH1's focus, b/c they are a mainstream network). For quite a while, having the Jermaine Dupri/SoSoDef stamp on your record meant automatic success. He was basically Bad Boy South before there was a Bad Boy South. That's what sets him apart from 3-6's producer or even Suave House and some of the other Memphis folks. I'm really salty they didn't honor Memphis.. They do hold the only hip hop artists who have won an Academy Award. True I will agree that they only honored artists that had some crossover success.. BUT I think there is no possible way they should have left 3 6 out.... Hell they honored Jermanin Dupri on production... Hypnotize Minds production def lead to 36 success and them winning an Oscar... Overall, the show was *m'eh* It was VH1 so I knew it was going to be commercial...and that's exactly what it was. The opening Luke set had me sweating out my perm LOL Between Luke, No Limit & Organized Noize, that was like the soundtrack to my college career. I LOVED seeing Khujo Goodie onstage & walking (though I could have done w/o the shirtless leather combo). On the other hand, I definitely felt some kind of way about Timbaland being on this one...for more reasons than 1. The performances didn't always make sense (unless it was just due to scheduling issues). JD did a song about Atlanta, and instead of having another Southern artist do his verse, you bring in a NYer to do his verse from the remix about NY? And why were NY DJs mixing for Southern artists?!?!? I <3 Organized Noize soooooo much ("Thank God for Pat, Ray & Ric" -Killer Mike). And I know why Outkast wasn't on the show...but it was still disappointing not to see more of the Dungeon Family (1st OR 2nd generation) during the Organized Noize set. And if it was the "Dirty South" Hip Hop Honors, WHY IN THE HELL did they not end the show with the Organized Noize set, so they could wrap to......perish the thought....."Dirty South." As for Boosie being one of the best in the game.......I'm just going to depart from my norm and respectfully agree to SERIOUSLY disagree.

even with it in question it is still a commercial success... and since the show was hella mainstream I'm still confuzzled... and I believed JD deserved the honor.. actually I believe everyone who was honored deserved it...

lol its cool. i just think he doesn't gets all the credit he deserves because most of his music is not mainstream. his 'career' is mostly cds being sold out of the trunk of cars

I know we talked about a little of this that night, but I have to agree on the JD part. He was HUGE in the south for a long time and definitely helped to put Atlanta on the map. I had a problem with the NY/Diddy remix too. Hell I would have been more satisfied with Waka Flocka instead of Diddy, because at least it would have been an Atl-based rapper (ok i'm kidding but you get my point). I mildly enjoyed the show because I went in with low expectations. and yeah, they could have had some more southern DJ's on there (they could have even brought out DJ Jelly lol).

I'm really salty they didn't honor Memphis.. They do hold the only hip hop artists who have won an Academy Award. Plus a 3/6, 8Ball and MJG set would have tore the effin stage down... esp if they got most of the original 3./6 back.. In fact 8ball MJG was on Suavehouse right?? Man if they did a Suave house set and Tela would came out with Sho Nuff... it would have been over ... "Hoes with no clothes Sho nuff" Yeah they could have at least put 8 Ball & MJG on there! I think 3 6 deserved to be represented, but many of the new southern hip hop artists list 8 Ball & MJG as big influences! That show was on some bullshyt...

I liked seeing Mystikal with his cute self making all the crazy faces. :-) I didn't watch because I'm not a big fan of the south when it comes to hip hop... no offense folks, I just ain't. And honestly I don't think honoring a region is a good plan. I think you honor individuals who have had sucess and paved the way for others. Now granted, that might mean the south doesn't get as much shine as the east or west, but I like it better based on specific people. LOL...would you still feel the same way about honoring regions if they'd started with the East Coast instead of the South?

True... of the course the Midwest has Oscars too (y'all remember when Eminem won one in 2003 right?)
And I'll be honest with you - I still see 3-6 mafia (Oscar or not) as largely regional. They really don't get that many spins outside of the south. Whereas someone like Master P, Wayne, Outkast, Timbo, Luke, regularly got heavy rotation on air nearly everywhere

But 3 6 and Emeniem didn't win in the same category... I think the one 3 6 won is regarded higher than the one E won... I mean an Oscar is an Oscar.. but i think there is a difference .. Ill research and be back..

Yeah it was the same category... but Eminem won his first... BUT
He didn't perform at the Oscars, 3-6 did. They were the first to do so I think.
And oh yeah - they're regional.
