I'm not a fan of Tyler Perry and when I saw this episode, it basically expressed how I feel about his plays.
**shrugs**
Good job, Aaron....

Ain't that a bit over the top? I actually didn't like the plays either, felt like they did perpetuate stereotypes and were formulaic. That to me is grounds enough for criticism - so why go beyond that?
The satire (read: attack) seemed somewhat personal instead of objective.

I don't know Damie...i've sang with gospel groups (long time ago...) and the world of Christian entertainment is full of these closeted homoerotic cultlike circles.
This is not an indictment of gospel music, Christianity or religion in general...not at all but tell me why there are so many tappers in gospel choirs and in Christian entertainment? I would say that it is a fair satire and assessment of a sad situation.

Everything he pointed out I have heard before.... I"m not a TP hater per'se but I do think his writing is absolutely horrible but I understand he has his demographic and they what he puts out.. no hate... he gets money.. but come on
1) Why is the villian always dark skin... for some reason I dont think its a coincedence
2) The religious message is usually added in a roundabout way.. like "oh yeah Jesus loves you "
3) Whats up with uber lightskin mussely metro heros... #Mantasymuch???
4) Cicely Tyson... I love her but I dont think she ever recovered from roots... she speaks like a slave in every film...
I will give props to him for employing a lot of black actors who don't get a lot of opportunities...

I will give props to him for employing a lot of black actors who don't get a lot of opportunities... I agree with points 1, 2, and 3, there was almost always an evil a$$ dark skinned dude and a light skinned dude who saved the day. It was very formulaic. Honestly, most movies, t.v. shows, plays ARE formulaic. Everyone plays to their audience.
And again, I don't own any TP DVDs and I am one of few people I know that doesn't watch them - but is the Madea character any worse than Flip Wilson's Geraldine character or Martin's Sha-nay-nay? Did anyone come at them with the homo-erotic cult angle? No. So I guess I just don't see why they do it with TP.
It's not that he's above criticism, is that the criticism seems to go above and beyond.

Do I have a problem with the Madea character?? NO, not really its good for a laugh here and there...
Really... the fact is TPs sexuality is highly questioned... The whole black/church/gay thing comes into play...

The whole black/church/gay thing comes into play... See that's the part I don't get. I questioned his judgment in magnifying stereotypes, but never his sexuality. His sexuality never crossed my mind. All I could see was a dude acting foolish. So that's what I'm trying to understand, what was the specific thing that he did that raised red flags. And it seems like there wasn't anything specific at all. Merely having a christian theme in the play seems to be the red flag

It's not necessarily from the characters he plays...but from him IRL. While he's not totally flamboyant, he DEFINITELY needs more people whenever I see him w/ a woman on his arm...it just seems too forced. Do I have a problem with the Madea character?? NO, not really its good for a laugh here and there... Really... the fact is TPs sexuality is highly questioned... The whole black/church/gay thing comes into play... See that's the part I don't get. This season is really doing it for me. From the Chocolate Scarface episode, that's what I like to call it, LOL, to the Tyler Perry episode.
Tyler Perry episode was funny. I smh a lot throughout the episode.

Best episode this season... I literally hollared during that Rocky Horror picture show rendition... It was so funny because those are the exact "side eye" moments everyone give TP. Classic episode... THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who had the same look Grandad did when that whole number started. LMAO! Oh I laughed, HARD.

ok, i watch 2 episodes online last night. I'm gonna watch some more. I gotta see what the addiction is. maybe this weekend i'll sit kick back with a few bottles of wine and a cheese pizza and watch seasons 1 & 2. Even if it isn't funny, they wine will definitely improve the humor.

4) Cicely Tyson... I love her but I dont think she ever recovered from roots... she speaks like a slave in every film... I said the same thing to my Mom a few years ago and she told me that Cicely Tyson picks her roles because she made decision a long time ago to only play certain types of roles. She starts talking about it around paragraph 5 of this article www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20064128,00.html

When they ressurected Tom's intense fear of anal rape in this last episode i thought it was going to be so much funnier.

The prescription medicine commercial was NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH!! One of the reasons I don't take most prescribed medications. The side effects are usually worse than the inital problem.
I heart Riley!!!
