Okay so I have been waiting for this moment for a year. Last year I purchased my children (Daughter PSP) (Son Wii) game systems and said next year (this year) I would get myself one. The thing is I'm trigger shy. Like do I have the drive to play games like I use to? Have I waned on the sticks because I have a last gen system or have I just waned? Is the PS3 250gb worth the $350? What games would I get. Would it just sit and collect dust? Is this the end of my video game playing days? or If I buy this thing will I be reinvigorated to play like I use to? Do I have the time now?

VP - My kids have the Wii, Nintendo DSI's and the X-Box 360. They play those (only on weekends). So I went and bought the PS3 for myself. I was cautious at first too simply because I know I don’t have a whole lot of time to play the thing. When I had the older gen systems, I use to like playing long drawn out adventure games with puzzles that you need maps for, etc. But I just don’t have the time for them now.
So when I got the PS3, I just bought a bunch of easy pickup games: Mercenaries 2. Fight Night Round 4, UFC, NBA Street, Dynasty Warriors 6, Tennis, Burnout Paradise (SICK racing game). Real quick and easy and if you get 30 minutes here or there, it’s a fun way to blow the time. But grab the PS3. Not only does it not have as many problems as the X-Box, but you can’t go wrong with the Blu-ray player that comes with it.

WOW... Decisions, decisions... J/K VP - If you want it...get it. IIRC, the PS3 is also very extendable if you're techie @ all. Might wanna consider how you can turn it into a gaming/media console so you get more use from it. Check out www.lifehacker.com if you're into that. If you search PS3, they should offer all kinds of hacks - from simple to advanced. HTH

I'm with Iceman on this one. I have a PS3 as well. I mainly play sports game and an occassional shooter from time to time. The blu-ray is definitely a bargain and the online internet subscription is free.
Right now I'm playing NBA 2K10 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Hey Iceman add me PHIRECHYLD
As for the drive, eh I thought the same thing but it's been a real stress reliever for me. Nothing like getting online to squad up with friends to kill a cup of people. lol.

Congrats on the PS3. I play mainly Call of Duty right now, and yes, the Blu-Ray is definitely a bargain. The only thing that has pissed me off if the new update. Sony removed the "boot from other OS" function. I had installed Linux on my PS3 (took all day i swear), and was running Neo Geo, Turbografix 16, Genesis, and SNES emulators on it. Then they decided to take that functionality away. PHIRECHYLD: I'm adding you as well. Phrozen_1

@alc, poeple were up in arms over that on one of the tech blogs I read.
The thing is, that was one of the major features they touted when marketing the console...now you can't use it if you've updated your unit.
Kinda sucks

Kinda sucks Yeah, and you can't play online without updating. I don't quite understand the purpose of taking away that functionality. It's not a big deal for me, i just don't understand the principle.

Like this geeky white dude who works at the Gamestop always gives me pointers (when I use to buy games for myself). Lately its been for the little ones. So I asked which was better Call of Duty or Battlefield Bad Company 2 and he said BBC2 hands down. He said COD is good but its swarmed with glitchers and the environment isn't destructible. I played BBC2 some this weekend and the chit was off the chain. I mean you can fly helicopters and shoot at folks, planes and shoot at folks, tanks, humvee's all types of chit. Now I have to figure out a way if two user profiles can exist for online because my son put his stamp and name all over the system when he was playing his games

I have Bad Company 2 on Xbox, and yes the destructible environments are great. I've never played online though. The problem I have, in playing the campaign, is the animation. Call of Duty just looks better, and BBC is more cartoonish. But I have to figure out if i can deal with the trade-off

How is Call of Duty online?

How is Call of Duty online? I got hooked pretty quickly, I can't lie. If people are cheating, I can't really tell right off anyway because I'm inconsistent anyway. I'll have one game with 20 kills, then another with 6 or 7. The upgrade system seems to keep me hooked, because you're always trying to unlock weapons, attachments, or killstreak rewards (if you kill enough people in a row, you can call in harrier strikes, stealth bombers, helicopters, guided missiles, or if you can get 25 kills in a row, you can nuke the whole game which is an automatic win). They use real military ranks, and the points required for promotion increase each time, so it keeps you playing. I've only come across ONE racist screenname or remark in the 24 plus hours of game time I've put in. Some dude named EATBLACKBABIES. Needless to say he busted our asses the whole game lol

See yall making me wanna go get the chit now man. My only problem is I'm use to Socom and when playing Socom you talk to your teammates and was really about teamwork. I played BBC2 online for the first time today for like 15 min and NOBODY talks. Its like I'm playing single player or some chit. It's run and gun like a mofo. The graphics are cool to me but iono. Since I don't have the patience to play video games offline anymore online gaming is really big to me. If the online campaign isnt good the game will collect dust

Some people play with bluetooth's (or is it blueteeth? lol), but most of the time i'm playing mercenary modes anyway, but if you get in a party with someone you can really get some strategy going.
for the most part though, it's run and gun. there are some stat mongers on there who can screw up a team game. For example, in domination mode there are 3 flags, and you have to capture and hold those spots during the match. The longer, and the more flags you hold, the more points the team gets. Some people will run right past a flag to go shoot at the other team, all to get kills lol.

Like a group of niggas you actually know or who actually care about winning. In COD2, most niggas care about rank and their kill:death ratio more than their win:lost ratio.... GOW 3 is probably one of the best games i've ever played. That game was responsible for me sitting in front of my tv for an entire weekend. I played for about 4 and a half hours on that Saturday and was done in like 3 days lol. Coach, pick up the combo pack for PS3. It's 29.99 and includes GoW 1 and 2, remastered for PS3. It's a letdown from the 3rd one, but it gives you the back story. Oh, and don't knock snipers. I'm not one to camp but on certain boards (Rundown and Derail) I'll do work for a while then switch it up.

Like I'd never play or buy GOW. I don't have the patience to play video games offline no more. Like I couldn't just sit there and play like I use to. GOW maybe an awesome game but that chit would collect dust quickly if it doesnt have an online campaign. Like in Madden I don't think I have played an entire season since like atleast 6 years. Same for NCAA Football (which is my chit) but I only play online. I'm hoping since EA has finally dropped that sorry ass March Madness game that 2k will get the licensing back and make 2kCollege Hoops again. I use to get Famu and bust mofo's ASS online with them. They'd have UNC UK whoever and I'd just put in work. This was like 3 years ago though. I knew how to shoot threes very well.

My brothers have been trying to convince me to get PS3 so we can play online - I'm just never home enough or in front of the video game console enough to get my money's worth out of it.
I'll probably still get one just for the Blu Ray, and DVD-up-play capability

ACR with FMJ and stopping power is my main class i use. The goal is to get the kill/death ratio to at least 1.00. I havent played in a while, might be rusty.
