Newly engaged couple killed in failed robbery attempt. Brother was an Alpha, sista was an AKA. If you from Jersey or tri-state area, you prob know em or at least seen them before. Lost for words. www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2010/04/jersey_city_couple_slain_in_bo.htmlA Jersey City couple engaged to be married were slain outside their Randolph Avenue home early this morning during a possible carjacking, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said. Having returned from their engagement party, which was held in New Brunswick, the pair -- Michael Muchioki, 27 and his fiancee, Nia Haqq, 25 -- had just parked their car on Randolph Avenue when they were approached by a man and two women at 3 a.m., DeFazio said. The victims were found dead near their car. Each one was shot twice, both were shot once in the head, DeFazio said. The three suspects left the scene in a gold-colored Pontiac Grand Am. The murders are under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutors Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department. Investigators are awaiting the autopsy results. Authorities believe that the victims were shot during an unsuccessful carjacking based on the crime scene and witness statements, DeFazio said. Police believe the car could not be moved because it had anti-theft device. "The people who did this were there earlier in morning engaged in some kind of activity and we need help with that," DeFazio said in appealing for the public's help in solving this case. "These perpetrators have to be brought to justice, and we are looking for any help that we can get from anyone in the community that may have any information that is relevant to this outrageous homicidal activity." Anyone with information should contact the Prosecutor's Office at (201) 915-1345. These killings represent the 10th and 11th murders in Hudson County this year. There were 31 murders in Hudson County last year, 28 of them in Jersey City.

The police think they were victims of a crew that case blocks in Jersey City for cars. They also found that two different guns were used. Both of them were shot twice...including a shot to their head. They had been planning a destination wedding to Aruba.
Hopefully a monetary award will be offered. Unfortunately money is a motivator for people to call in a tip/info.

They were Pham... Statement of General President Herman “Skip” Mason, Jr. On the senseless gun violence that claimed two Alpha brothers It is with a heavy heart and an angry mind that I report that two of our young brothers have entered Omega Chapter, our fraternal chapter of sweet rest, as a result of gun violence. All members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity are mourning the recent cold-blooded murders of Brother Michael Muchioki, 27(and his fiancé Nia Haqq, 25) of New Jersey, and Brother Steven Lee, 32 of Chicago. Brother Muchioki and his fiancé were shot and killed after returning from their engagement party in Jersey City, N.J. on Saturday night. Brother Steven Lee, was shot while walking on South Ingleside Ave. in Chicago’ East Chatham neighborhood. According to police, Brother Muchioki’s incident appears to have been an attempted carjacking and Brother Lee’s may be gang-related. Today, I am issuing a clarion call against gang violence and illegal possession of weapons. I urge every brother and every chapter to join together and to work together to stop this violence. Further, we urge every brother in their respective states to write their members of Congress and President Barack Obama and urge tougher and stiffer penalties for violation of gun laws. It’s episodes like these two, that firm my belief, that our work in this fraternity is even more crucial in helping to provide positive interaction with young boys to prevent them from choosing to join a gang or be involved in other crimes. Brother Muchioki, a 2001 initiate of Iota Rho Chapter, attended New Jersey Institute of Technology. He had worked at Antenna Software in Jersey City since 2007. He was an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha at NJIT and had been dating Soror Haqq for five years. Ms. Haqq was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Brother Stephen Lee was initiated at the Beta Eta Chapter at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.in1996. In 2000, he earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Chicago. Our prayers are with the families of all of these young victims, and we plan to do everything we can in Alpha Phi Alpha to curb this violence that continues to plague American communities everywhere.

The suspects took Haqq's engagement ring, Muchioki's wallet, the pairs' cell phones and the gift cards they had received at the engagement party, held at Delta's Soulfood restaurant in New Brunswick, New Jersey, authorities say.
damn low lives. Reading more details get me more upset.

And you need to stop wearing your feelings on your shoulders. Yes its awful what happened to these babies but the truth is what it is. Hell my close cousin was murdered this weekend. If false info about him had been circulating then I would correct it no matter how I'm feeling about this situation. People loose loved ones everyday in horrible situations.

Nia & Michael's birthdays were a day apart (5/5 & 5/6). My landlord (Que & in Law Enforcement) said that Michael had an older brother who was in law enforcement that was killed "on the job" as they say. So that's TWO children Mr & Mrs Muchioki have lost to gun violence.
There are a TON of peeps that will be watching this case closely. No one wants this to be one of those stories you hear about, feel sympathy and then fades from your memory.
