Well??? Work, what happened? WOMEN. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!! Yall so slick, so difficult. SPOILED Yall have this "WAY" about yourselves. You do slick sh%$ and find a way to make it sound good to your man. You smile and bat your eyes, knowing you wrong as hell and that it was another way to what you are doing. AND you know what else, yall inject reinforcement in the matter as if to justify your charade. Things like: Baby she "had" to cut it. " She haaad to perm it cause dah dah dah", "She was saying I had split ends and this, that and the other thing. I PUNKED OUT YALL....LOL I had the water and everything ;D. I looked at her big ole brown eyes and her facial expression which read..."my husband is going to tear me a new one" Yall her hairstyle/cut ROCKED!!!! like OMG!!! Her hair is longer than what we both expected. But still I told her hard headed self NOT to get a perm. So we both agreed on the reason "WHY" she had to get one and that it was her Last one. Like I said Women Yall got this "Way" about yourselves, and you know what I LOVE IT.

But in the future if she has split ends and someone tells her she needs a cut AND a perm then she needs to leave and take her money with her, LOL. That stylist knows she could have just pressed and cut her hair but she wanted that future business.

<---Has been reading this thread like a cliffhanger script for several pages now <---Is all warm and fuzzy about Work's concern for his wife's hair drama <---Did her touch-up last night with her mild no lye relaxer <---Hopes Mrs. Work's stylist at least used something gentler like that or some "Just For Me"

Let me ask yall something
Is there ever a reason (damaged hair wise) NOT to start the "transition" phase? I mean can your hair be too uneven all the way around, temple/nape hair falling out, split ends, breakage or whatever....to go natural? Do you have to get a cut and perm to "Start" the natural process because of damage hair?
I realize all of these are the same question I just want to be sure of how to ask what I'm trying to ask.

Oh yea I went to the salon with Mrs. Work the other day for a consultation. The stylist has the Same thoughts as me which is, My wife has too many things that she ain't gone do to her hair.
We've made an appointment with a Dermie as well. It will take some time getting in though (March) cause she is very Very good and stay booked up.

don't "look" so sad. I don't believe she tricked you. I think that at the very last minute, she became afraid. From you previous posts, she was worried about how she would look. She was in the mindset that maybe, just maybe, I won't look good anymore. It's a confidence issue. Just keep being supportive. Make her believe you when you tell her she's beautiful no matter what. Stay positive and and confident and as she builds her confidence and esteem, she will slowly but surely be ready for her journey. It took me years to get here and sometimes, I'm still scared. This week makes 7 months. It would be so easy to go back to the creamy crack, but I promised myself I'd make it to my birthday in July. If I can do that, then I know I can keep it going.

Getting a relaxer to get your hair "healthier" to go natural??? Foolishness! Encourage your wife to always do her own research 1st.

People forget that healthy, relaxed hair is completely possible. Keeping natural hair healthy (not to mention, manageable) is a lot more work than keeping relaxed hair healthy. Maybe her stylist felt that having relaxed hair it would be easier to search and destroy her split ends, easier to maintain protein/moisture balance, etc. There's more you can do at-home to keep relaxed hair in check, as well. If she's a good stylist, it's not the end of the world.

Do you have to get a cut and perm to "Start" the natural process because of damage hair? I realize all of these are the same question I just want to be sure of how to ask what I'm trying to ask. My opinion: the reasons that someone won't begin to transition have nothing to do with the state of someone's hair. If your hair is damaged and you have little to no edges a perm is not going to help. Like I said..that stylist knew doggone well that she could have blown out and/ or pressed her hair and gave her a cut to get rid of damage. I did that same thing about 3 times during my transition because of horrible ends and breakage. I would have walked out had some stylist said "you need to get a perm first to fix the damage" WTF? LOL If you tell a stylist what you do and don't want and stand firm then they'll do it if they want that money.

i've never heard of having to GET a perm to get RID of one. Some of the stylists will tell you anything to get that money, lol. A person going natural might mean that they won't be coming back after this time or very often but someone with a perm is more than likely guaranteed money every 6-10 weeks.

it will be march since i got a relaxer (happy dance) thinking about doing the big chop because I CANNOT STAND THESE TWO DIFFERENT TEXTURES!!!!!!!! if i wear my hair in its natural state it looks like this IM SICK OF THIS EFFIN SHAG! ive tried two strand twists...and other methods and they all turn out the same way...lionel shagtastic aside from wearing dreads or braids...what are some methods to make my hair look presentable? my natural pattern is a "s"...but ive notice i goes from deep waves on some areas to tight spiral curls in others...what can u do to get them to get along? also is there any product or method u can use to reduce strinkage?

If she's a good stylist, it's not the end of the world. I agree completely with the RED part. However, it is plain BS that the stylist convinced her that it was best to get a perm first on her journey to going natural. Stuff like this is why I am my own stylist.

I realize that I am going to have to straighten sooner than I planned. I'm on week 7 post big chop, and I need to do a serious search and destroy. I may start wearing more stretched and protective styles since my hair is very coily and loves curling into itself, causing single strand knots. I now understand why there are so many naturals who prefer (for the health of their hair) to wear it straight or stretched most times.
Hmmm, maybe a compromise can be an air-dryed roller set. What do ya'll think?

Are you using any heat? This kind of sounds like my hair after I BCed and had a lot of heat damage from blow drying and flat ironing so much during my transition. As far as the styles I wear twists of different sizes and twist outs, braids and braid outs, puffs, fros, eventually buns, etc and they all look presentable to me but it just might depend on what your definition of presentable is. Maybe the shag effect comes from how you twist or maybe the direction you twist in? You have to treat the twists like a rollerset, where you roll your hair the way you want it to fall.
