What up, OOA? Most of you here know that I'm associated with more than one type of GLO, (one of which is very young) so I'm fairly comfortable with new orgs integrating some of the things that we've traditionally seen as 'Black Greek.' Calls, chants and what not are a wonderful way to recognize other members & spread your fraternal spirit. BUT - When you take traditions and butcher them (with a stupid 2 min call, or line jacket covered from top to bottom in graphics), it really ticks me off. Take, for example, the following "probate" video [it has it ALL]: How do you guys feel about this type of thing? I mean, if you're gonna do it, AT LEAST do it justice! JMHO

I am fundamentally opposed to the "spread" and think that it's facilitation by BGLO members is akin to treason. I am not in favor of this type of mimicry AT ALL.

Yeah but to your point they work better when they're your OWN calls and chants (and then done with some sort of enthusiam - Pan Hell or not, that's one of the weakest strolls I have seen in my life - no enthusiasm, no precision, no purpose. And I can't even say that's just how some Latino orgs roll because you can youtube many examples of them going "hard in the paint" for their org. This just wasn't one of those examples)
But of course I know the "Get-A-Long" Gang will be in here shortly to lecture us about how it's not about Black Greeks culture vs. Other Greeks culture...
...even though it is.

They kinda look like a line of wanna-be Rockettes!! I had to LOL @ them "spittin" some history in the beginning. Ain't that what we do at our probate shows these days? Just art imitating life I guess. I guess one prerequisite they had for that org was that you must have a pair of nice legs! They all got that, if they ain't got nothing else! That bowlegged one (2nd from the right) was kinda tight!!

I'm kinda torn as to the spread... *DISCLAIMER: This post will contain some things that will be unpopular opinions. You'll be aight. Besides, I fully support finding a home that reflects your values. Whatever you CHOSE to pledge (or join :-|) should make you proud.* Here's the thing - When new orgs of US step, stroll, etc. it doesn't bother me. When OTHERS do it, well... I saw something not too long ago and was like "NPC sororities have handsigns now? Dang." I can't remember which org, but at least one has 'created' a handsign in recent years. Most of the National ones have passed their Centennial. You're JUST now coming up with this idea? SOME of the Latino/Asian special interest orgs need to pump their brakes IMO. If your org is specifically about your culture, shouldn't you focus on that instead of emulating us? Doing a stroll to music en Espanol doesn't cut it. If you're culturally based, exhibit YOUR culture. If you wanted to act/perform/rep like a Black Greek, you should've pledged one of our orgs. Others have. Just a thought.

Hmm...I wonder if I'm apart of the "Get-Along-Gang" LOL
Either way I'm at the point where I don't care too much about who does what. What some other org does or doesn't do won't change one thing about what I do in regards to my sorority. I've heard it all 10 times over...afterall that's how I found Stophazing in the first place.
As far their folks in the video the stroll sucked...period. They have no rhythm, it was sloppy and they look bored.

I'm so with le muse on this. I mean I know we borrowed the idea from the "others' but look at us now and see how different our "greek" is from their "greek"
Maybe if will take them time to create their own traditions. Cause those sigma lambda gamma probate to the ignorant look like some real light skin akas in all that pink.
Leaning back and being extra on the incorporated.
It time to find YOUR roots.

LoL @ Juicy gettin hype. When I was in school the LPs were kinda like BGLO spin-offs, but it was no beef, because they admitted it. At their interest meetings, they talked about their history and matter-of-factly stated that "we desired a sisterhood similar to the African American sororities that existed at X university at the time." Shoot, that's our story too. They stepped, strolled, called and carried on, but they greeted in Spanish, and had little cultural particulars that made it seem less like biting. Now, I remember going to a Chi Upsilon Sigma probate and having an attitude because I saw them re-create some of "our" things that I don't believe they truly knew the history of, but...many of US don't even know why we do what we do. My opinion on this has definitely shifted as I've gotten older. In UG, I was very protective of BGLO culture (for my own reasons) and didn't even like the others stepping. Now, I say live and let live.
And for the record, that show was still garbage.

Wait, aren't these your Greek cousins, L? yea but all jokes aside aren't they?? First of all, HELL NAH. There really isn't a second of all, I just wanted it to be clear that I don't have any such thing as a "cousin" regardless of a particular sorority, their unofficial 'brother' fraternity and the former affiliation of one of its founders. Madeupazzness.
