Officials said the 16-year-old girl's stepfather walked into the girl's bedroom and saw her having sex with her boyfriend. That's when Wade Edwards closed the door to load a gun and then fired at the boy, police said. "The stepfather walked up, brandished the handgun in a threatening manner and opened fire," a police officer said. The boy, 18-year-old Julian Harp, limped out to the front yard and called 911. Police said Edwards also called 911 and confessed to the shooting. Investigators said it was one of the most severe crimes of passion that they've worked. "In 13 years, I've never heard anything like this happening in this area," one investigator said. Neighbors said Edwards may have "overreacted" but said they understood that he wanted to protect his daughter. "It's a sad story, but I would do anything to protect my daughter," said neighbor Sean Gibbons. Harp was in the hospital Thursday night recovering from the gunshot wounds, police said.

From my understanding the boyfriend wasn't raping her. They were getting it on and didn't expect for her stepdad to walk in on them.

Hmmm stepdad was mad that she was not his little girl anymore i think so too. I know a lot of parent threaten to do this, but this is the first time in the news (that I know of) that someone actually did it. |

Like maybe he was at work and felt that he wasn’t respected and then he made it home and was upset because it seemed like they didn’t respect him there either. . . .just a thought |

Here is another aspect. If he is 18 and she is 16, they could get the boy for statuatory rape, if the parents wanted to push for it.

Maybe it was a small caliber... I don't know how else he survived. I understand wanting to protect your daughter but...
4 times?
If he was attacking her or raping her hell shoot to the magazine is empty but sex? 4 times?
I tell you this much... I bet they ALL learned a lesson they'll never forget (though the lessons will likely be different for each one).

hehehe!!! Hell...pretty much the same thing as when my mommy caught my sister bangin it out in her room when I was little....my momma literally almost killed my sister. Apparently, there's a level of rage that comes with finding out your little girl is not a little girl anymore!
to avoid a situation like ^^^this....I just came home and said "momma, I gotta tell you something and you can't get mad ok?"

Good thought but I believe statutory rape will be hardly visited in court being that he shot dude 4 times. He will get charged for attempted murder. "Crime of passion" argument won't even work in this one. I think step daddy got sick at the thought that his little girl "getting the business". |

Wow, that mess is crazy!! Dad has no excuse. What are you protecting your daughter from, and STD? If it was concensual he shoulda shot her twice so she could take some of the blame. The fact that he had time to sit there and load that gun, means he should go to jail.
But I am surprised that this wasn't an interracial thing. Egads! We're starting to step over the crazy lines in 2009. Next thing you know we'll be taking chopping people up from YT too.

I can't believe this was the first indication that the step daughter had he was crazy. This level of crazy doesn't conceal well. If she knew he was crazy, she shouldn't have put ole dude in this position. He should be able to sue and get a nice new Camaro out of this.

I feel NO sympathy for the stepdad! What would I have done? NOT shoot the man 4 times! So what lessons would have been taken away from the dad's reaction...if you don't likewhat you see, then shoot it...REALLY!
I do not buy that he thought his life was in danger...you walk in a room and see your daughter doing the nasty... what happened to a loud expletive, grabbing the dude off your girl or at the very least say OMG! I mean come on! Instead he runs downstairs to load his gun...comes back upstairs and shoot?!! He is an IGNORAMUS and he is gonna pay for it...
No crime of passion will fly, no temporary insanity will work...he is gonna get good ole attempted MURDER! (but then again...its FL so lets wait and see)

3) If you're going to shoot something..ESPECIALLY 4 TIMES....kill it. Period.
4) He's going to jail and he should. Do I sympathize with him just a little? Of course I do but wrong is wrong.
Unpopular Opinion: Had he whopped his ass into the hospital, I would have been alright. We have to maintain a community standard. If you think it's ok for your 15 year old daughter (or son) to be having sex then you are contributing to the decline of the community standard and since that standard affects me....i'll call you out in public. I will also tell your daughter that she is dressing like a hooker and then have her come tell you about it. I will tell your son that if he were picked up by the police....he deserves it since he can't walk with his pants are around his knees, his shoes are untied and he is as high as gators on the refrigerator.
Dude was wrong for shooting the kid. But I understand....
