OSLO – President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.
Nobel observers were shocked by the unexpected choice so early in the Obama presidency, which began less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama woke up to the news a little before 6 a.m. EDT. The White House had no immediate comment on the announcement, which took the administration by surprise.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation but recognized initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.
"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," said Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Nobel Committee.
Kongratulations Mr. President

LOL @ Oksana!
The birthers and deathers (and denonunced) are drowning in their own feces and urine this morning!! Their unbridled hatred for the president and this award just made them lose all their bodily fluids and excrement!! LOL! I say...let 'em drown!
Bravo, Pres. Obama! The world recognizes and respects you for your leadership and diplomatic acumen, even if some of your own countrymen don't!

And so it begins.... But we knew this Oksana. We already knew this was coming. The moment something positive happens they have to say something negative. That's all they have. No solutions, no contributions, just perpetual doom-saying. That's why they cheered the Olympic loss. That's why they'll say this is a bad thing.
I think I'm more amused at the people lamenting the fact that they thought Obama would find a way to accept this not on behalf of himself, but the country. LOL - like humility in a world leader was somehow a TERRIBLE thing. They are completely unhinged.

I had to copy and paste that article: The cast of "Morning Joe" Friday tried valiantly to find any possible good in President Obama's receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. They failed, but they did offer the president some tips on how to move past what they saw as the awful embarrassment of winning an international award. "The upside is the European community is embracing this president and saying we like the direction that he is taking this country in and it's drastically different," suggested Mika Brzezinski. She was quickly shot down. "The upside is the Nobel Prize committee that has had suspect selections in the past has just befuddled a lot of people across the world," said host Joe Scarborough. "I predict right now that he will find a way to basically turn it down," Time's Mark Halperin added . "I think he is going to say, I share this with the world or whatever. I don't think he'll embrace this. Because there is no upside." "The damage is done," Brzezinski responded. NBC White House Correspondent Chuck Todd concurred that the prize posed problems for Obama. "You're right, will he go to Stockholm to pick it up? What does he do with the money? You get a million dollars. You get over a million dollars for winning this." (The prize is actually given in Oslo. There is a banquet in Stockholm.) But Todd was confident that Obama would survive the crisis. "Mark's probably right," he said. "He'll figure out some way of accepting this in another form, not on his own behalf." Read more at: www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/09/obama-nobel-prize-a-disas_n_314997.htmlThey sound STUPID as hell. STUPID!

So I was sitting at the car dealership this AM and the TV was on Fox News. They were so disgusted. I was hollering.
Good for him. I'm so proud of him and of the Nobel Committee for recognizing him!

LOL - my conservative facebook friends are having conniptions right now. It is HILARIOUS.
If Bush had won one, they would have been like, "see this proves he was right all along". But since it's Obama winning it all I hear is "what has he achieved?"
He's achieved the Nobel Peace Prize BYOTCH. LOL.
If you are unaware of Obama turning back the cowboy diplomacy of George Bush (around the globe) then what is there to even argue? Wallow in the morass of your ignorance my angry mob of befuddled tea-bagging hypocrites.

All they are doing is showing how ignornat and stuck they are in their ways, because the WORLD wanted this man as president, and the WORLD voted for this man for this award.
I think it is wonderful. I LOVE this man.

We (Americans) are so ignorant about how we are perceived around the world. Our press is so censored and we don't listen, read or watch any news station outside of the US so we tend to be quite ignorant.
Bush gave us a really bad name around the world....even with people we considered friends.
For us to have elected someone with his intelligence, demeanor, communication skills and pragmatic aproach to everything gave the rest of the world a reason to exhale.
Face it, the Bush (and often the entire GOP's) doctrine is, let's get rich at any cost and then build up the military so that no one can have anything to say about it.
Good for our president. Cheers!

Statement by the DNC:
"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists — the Taliban and Hamas this morning — in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize. Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize — an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride — unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It’s no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore – it’s an embarrassing label to claim."

I'm very proud and pleased that Obama has won this award. People are always going to throw hate, but they'll get over it... and if they don't, he still won the award. I think this is a great honor (can you believe he gets the Nobel Peace Price but can't get an honorary degree from ASU? LOL) and a huge achievement. I think some people are hating because his efforts are different than the efforts, impact and lifetime achievement that they may see from MLK, Jimmy Carter or Ghandi. But I think it's a different kind of peace he's being recognized for. I think he's instilled a desire for and inspired peace , hope, understanding and harmony among diverse groups of people that we've (the US) been lacking for so long. He's intelligent, well spoken and genuinely cares about people. He cares about other nations and how we're perceived, which is a huge, noticeable change. He wants to end wars... and thankfully now he has more pressure to do so. I think he'll use his presidency to bring about peace around the world. That's no small thing. He's the man. Congrats to Obama and big ups to all his haters. *Still waiting on Bono to win. He's really been due for it. *

More Americans need to understand how the world views us (America), and then see why it even matters, because it sure does matter.

Let there be NO DOUBT about which group of people truly hate America. If you're affiliated with the GOP, the birthers, the baggers, the deathers, the Hannities, the O'Reillites, Limbaughians, or Beckites... ask yourself...
...why?

...why? So True. The only America they are rooting for is their America…and that America is chilling. All Minorities, Gays and the very poor might as well pack their bags. I have only disdain for Rush, and Hannity. O’Reily I can sometimes stomach.
