What happens when people with opposing views start showing up with guns also?
~Damie Aug, 19, 2009www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-shaw/reading-the-pictures-em38_b_267867.htmlI just saw this photo story at TPM. After several incidents last week in which right wing radicals showed up at health care meetings wearing guns, we now have this example of a pro-reform demonstrator, identified only as "Josh," appearing at a weekend tea party protest packing heat.Given that singular radical statements can disproportionately alter the political narrative (link), do you think this protest (and the image it obviously was intended to inspire) provides "an effective" demonstration? In other words, does it realistically help Obama and the cause of reform in any way? And more to the point, can fighting the symbolism of fire with the symbolism of fire actually help neutralize (as opposed to simply incite) the irrational behavior and radical gestures of the extreme right?

I'm against it....
What I AM for is Democrats or should I say liberals and progressives ACTUALLY SHOWING UP at these town hall meetings and not giving these nutcases the opportunity to spew this garbage to the masses.

Cultural bias towards the presumption of guilt when it comes to black people is not a myth. The assumption will be that it's black folks toting guns that's the problem.

True...and it's sad. As long as a group of Black folks dont show up brandishing AR-15's! Wasn't that dude that had the AR-15 at the town hall in Arizona black? Yeah he was part of a radio stunt - they called ahead of time and told the authorities that he was coming. That, to me, is different than people genuinely and spontaneously showing up strapped.
