hmmmm. So its ok to discuss this now. You were vilified when you made the post back in June because you hadnt introduced yourself in the Newbie thread. Although you did wish emPRISS a Happy Deltaversary back in April,no one knew who you were because you never intro'd yourself to the board. That why your next post about the Weeping Ivy put the OOA Family (cuz that's what we are to each other a dysfuntional happy family)in an uproar. 1) no one knew who you were ; 2)you posted something speculative (at that time) about another org There are Old Timers on OOA who have been raked over the coals for posting negative info about other orgs, and theyre family. So when your 2nd post hit OOA,the members of that Org AND members of OOA wanted to know who you were & why were you posting that link. If you read the Newbie thread, all Newbies get beat up on the first day & then become family the more they post. Trust me,youre not the only newbie that has been torn apart, nor the last. When stuff hits mainstream media like AOL; MSNBC etc then its fair game. When its speculative, there's an unwritten (but often spoken) rule about not posting inflammatory info about BGLO's. Intro yourself in theNewbie Thread so OOA can get to know you better...(no sarcasm)

Look y'all....in my opinion...something like this is ALWAYS ok to discuss. Ask me why...go ahead...ask me!
*why Cam?*
Because whatever one BGLO affects the perception of others. If one organization is discussing internal matters ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE MATTERS OF QUESTIONABLE LEGALITY then it's ok.
The thing with Cheryl Underwood? No so much....that was all Zeta. The issue with misappropriation/misuse of funds or any violation of fiduciary duties has the potential to affect our non-profit status so.......yeah, this is relevant to all BGLOs.

My Sorors and I are noticeably and understandably absent in this discussion. I did just want to pop in and say that I appreciate how respectful the discussion has been.
I think that most mature greeks understand that this is no reason to gloat, this is a wake up call to check your processes and question your leadership. When the Zeta's situation began to play out in the public, I took no joy in that. I was as outraged as I had a right to be (considering that I am not a Zeta) and I wished my sister greeks the best and a speedy resolution to their problems.
All of our organizations are made up of a cross section of a similiar demographic--African American college students or grads with at least a C+ GPA--we all have good and bad in our respective organizations. There have been some other less publicized instances of financial impropriety amongst the other organizations which shows that none of us are immune. I think that all regular posters on this board understand and respect that.
It is unfortunate that our family fight has spilled out the front door of our home, past the front yard and into the street. Now the neighbors are watching and commenting, and it is not a good feeling at all. I pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha 22 years ago and my love for and belief in this sisterhood has not diminished in all of those years and it has not diminshed now. We will get through this. We have 100 years of excellence to build upon, we are strong and educated women and this has just exposed a need for some tightening of our internal processes. We can and will handle this and will be stronger for it.

hmmmm. So its ok to discuss this now. OK, here's the less eloquent version of what BK said. Some newbies have come in and been embraced, some newbies have come in and accumulated more smites than posts. The difference? Respect and home training. As in life, when you are a guest in someone else's home, there's certain things you do and don't do. Walking in the front door talking about Big Mama's crooked wig shows poor breeding. The fact that you've clearly been lurking since your thread and only showed back up to make the comment above shows that you haven't learned anything from the first go round. We encourage the exchange of ideas and welcome opposing viewpoints but the respect factor is a hardline requirement of how we flow here. Get in or find another MB that suits your style better.

See and THAT'S what I'm saying. I KNOW we have all had these things - so why is this making it to MSNBC and CNN? I don't even recall CNN announcing that Michelle Obama was being made a new member... does anyone else? If that isn't big news - then WHY is this? I got a message board full of conspiracy theorists and I can't get one cosign on this? No one else but me thinks it is peculiar that a story like this is getting this much attention from news outlets?

Post by Bunny Hop on Jul 31, 2009 9:05:26 GMT -5
Again - I still have to say I'm surprised this is making it this far. Let's say it IS a million dollar misapprorpiation. In the grand scheme of news - how big is that? Sure it's big to AKAs but there aren't even 1,000,000 AKAs (shut up - there aren't). There are barely a million black greeks - that's the only audience that it seems might be remotely interested in it - so why would this story make this level of news?
Is it the recent induction of Bill Clinton into PBS that is now shining a light on all D9 orgs? Is it Michelle Obama's connection to AKA? You can't pick and choose what's in the news. If your good stuff makes the news you can't be all that surprised if the bad stuff gets out there too. News is to inform and while it may not shine a good light on people, places, orgs, etc it is still news.

No, I got you. I was just making a statement about this whole "if it's not your org...don't talk about it" sentiment going around.
If it's made public then it becomes my concern or at least worth watching since we are all lumped into one big black pot anyway.

You have the right to do and be you independent of the goodwill of others, in this case AKAs. Those reasons are good enough for me... ;D

^^Will not cosign cause wow DQ, just wow.......... If they can keep this "birthers" controversy up which we KNOW is much ado about nothing, this certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility. I don't have proof of it yet, but with so many conservatives playing the race card, I think BGLOs are going to be scrutinized to death and any connections they can make to Obama they will twist/distort ad infinitum.
I mean you saw how they went after the Bill Ayers thing, and they barely had any contact. There are many members of BGLOs who have some direct or indirect connection to Obama and my CT is that they are going to use that as a potential avenue to attack.
