Kappa Alpha Psi Honored for Fulfilling $500,000 Pledge to St. Jude Through
Sunday of Hope National Fundraiser
MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital(R) in Memphis, Tenn. recognized Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
Incorporated for fulfilling a $500,000 pledge through Sunday of Hope, an
annual national fundraising campaign that supports the hospital's mission of
finding cures and saving children. The recognition ceremony featured members
of Kappa Alpha Psi, representatives from top fundraising churches, and St.
Jude patients and their families. In addition, nationally recognized clergy
Bishop Eddie L. Long delivered an inspirational message that encouraged
attendees to never give up hope in the fight against childhood cancer and
other diseases.
Partnering with churches across the country from January through April, Kappa
Alpha Psi chapters encouraged congregations to donate to St. Jude, one of the
world's premier pediatric cancer research centers. This year, more than 170
churches participated in the Sunday of Hope campaign raising $364,000. Since
2005, Kappa Alpha Psi has raised more than $750,000 through Sunday of Hope and
other fundraising initiatives.
"On behalf of our patients and families, I want to congratulate this amazing
group for their accomplishment of fulfilling their $500,000 pledge in honor of
the children of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital," said David L. McKee,
chief operating officer and interim CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising organization
of St. Jude. "We are so grateful for the support of Kappa Alpha Psi and for
the research and treatment that this generous gift will help provide to
children battling sickle cell disease and other deadly diseases."
