So I was on Bourbon Stree ENTIRELY too late Saturday night/Sunday Morning and walked into this bar with some brothers.
The waitress walks up to me and here is the conversation...
Waitress: Haye Bae Bae...you want one...(one of the tube shots)
Cam: No thanks.
Waitress: Well, you wanna buy ME one?
Cam (smiling slightly): Not particularly...
Waitress (clearly irritated): Is is because i'm not WHITE?
Cam: (asshole grin of concern): And why would you think that, babygirl.
Waitress: Because that's all Y'ALL (pointing to my frat shirt) have been on tonight.
Cam: Well, i'm sorry if my brothers have disappointed you but i'm not interested in alcohol tonight.
Waitress: So what are you interested in....(giving me the "come get this p#% look".
Cam: I'll let you know when I find it.
*Cam winks and walks off*
Waitress: Well FVCK you then....you probably like them WHITE bitches anyway!!!!

In all fairness, I did look around and all the white girls who weren't anchored with their Boos were out on the floor or against the wall with frat.
And in fairness to those brothers.....these were those Louisiana, new age 25-20s with the cornpone fed bodies!

I don't have one that covers this. Seems the Strip Club Chronicles don't have pertinent life lessons for every life situation...

So, the same night, i'm in a different bar only this time i've got a Vodka and splash of cran in my hand. This young lady walks up to me...cute and young Delta ....and this is the conversation....
*she accidently bumps her round ass into Cam*
Her: Oh, Excuse me!
Cam: No, pardon me....I was not paying attention. (even though I was standing still and she was walking)
Her (with a stern yet still flirtation look): Uhm...Should you be in here with that drink in your hand while wearing your letters?
Cam (grins): What, you the protocol police? *chuckles* Let me guess...you're a Delta?
Her (gesturing to her 3 friends): We all are.
Cam (sipping his drank): Well ma'am, am I embarrassing you with my behavior?
*her friend kinda laughs*
Her: Nah, you ain't embarrassing me. You do you. I was just saying. It's against protocol to be out here disrespecting your letters.
Cam: Well, just so you know....There is no ALPHA protocol against this. Don't you see all of these brothers in up and down Bourbon wearing letters? But thanks for asking.
*She walks off to shake her ass and drop it all over the floor*
As she walks off I hear her say...
Her: It's just tacky.....
I shrug, finish my drink and order another.

Hmmm its interesting that all sororities have that same protocol but fraternities don't.
I think it's a gender issue.

It's a socio-cultural issue. In the end, no one wants to see a bunch of sorority girls drinking all over the place in their letters. Drunk and acting a fool or not.
With the guys....not so much.
Double standard? Yep....it just is.

Can I sadly predict that there will be TONS of protocol violations when our convention hits N'Awlins next summer? Sigh............

I'll be sure to report back since I will definately be there!! I had a 50 year brother tell me that I should come to the Delta convention. He and his wife (a Delta) have been married for 56 years and he said y'all set it out for the men.
Now, what he meant by set it out is probably different than what I saw in my mind when he said it but....LOL!

Double standard? Yep....it just is. Perhaps...but I really think one should refrain from being drunk (amongst other things) in their letters, regardless of their gender. If youre going to drink, put it in an unmarked container and dont get sloppy. We are representing something that is (supposedly) larger than ourselves and we need to be mindful that people are watching us and many still consider us the elite. Sadly, I think women just tend to grasp that concept better than men do (in general, not just in the sorority/frat context). JMO

Drunkenness is one thing. Consumption and having a good time is another. I don't think it's a matter of whether or not men grasp it, it's just a perception issue tied to gender.
I mean, who goes to a frat picnic and starts talking about protocol? With fraternities, it doesn't become an issue until the Alcohometer reaches a dangerous point.

JMO There are a number of things that we shouldn't do in our letters and ways we shouldn't display our letters if we respect them and ourselves but the drinking in letters is the one that is officially a protocol violation. You would think common sense would direct our behaviors on the others but I digress......

I don't think drinking or being in the club with letters on has anything to do with the decline is BGLO's social standing.
Honestly, it's a gender thing. It's a matter of perception based on gender.

I believe the 1) lack of knowledge of organizational protocol, 2) lack of respect for organizational protocol, 3) lack of members who independent of protocol rules conduct themselves in a ladylike manner when representing the org are contributing to the decline of BGLO's social standing.
